The Walking Dead may be in its final season, but Tales of The Walking Dead will continue. AMC announced the next spinoff series, Tales of The Walking Dead. The series will be an anthology series, focusing on new and established TWD characters.
The Walking Dead debuted on Halloween 2010 and just completed part one of its eleventh and final season. The first spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead debuted on AMC in February of 2015 and will begin its seventh season on Sunday October. 17. And the third spinoff, a two-year limited series, The Walking Dead: World Beyond premiered last October and is currently in its second and final season.
Tales of The Walking Dead was one of three shows announced earlier this year as shows in development for AMC. That also includes the untitled Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) spinoff series with Fear TWD digital series, Dead in the Water. Oh and of course, the highly anticipated Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) movies are apparently still happening.
Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead universe will work closely with show-runner Channing Powell. Powell served as a writer and producer for TWD and Fear TWD. According to Deadline, the initial season of Tales of the Walking Dead will have six episodes and will begin production next year.
Gimple said, “This series, more than any other in the Walking Dead Universe, runs on new voices, perspectives, and ideas — bringing to life stories unlike any we’ve told before. I’m thrilled to be Channing’s consigliere, helping in every way I can to make those new visions real for the best fans in TV.”
Tales of The Walking Dead is set to premiere on AMC+ and AMC in Summer 2022.
