More human than human? Probably. The AMC series Humans announced the season three premiere date for Tuesday June 5, 2018. The third season will have eight episodes and air on a new night for AMC programming. Humans is set in a parallel present where artificial intelligent technology is far more advanced. The creation of the synthetics or “synths” was meant to serve humanity, despite fears that the synths would turn on their masters. When a British family purchases a synth, they find the origins of the synths is far more complicated.
If you haven’t watched season 1 and 2, do so now! The episodes are available on Amazon. Season 1 we were introduced to the Hawkins family who purchased a synthetic to help around their busy house. Each of the family members created a special relationship with their synth, Anita (Gemma Chan), but it is matriarch Laura (Katherine Parkinson) who discovered Anita’s secret past. Anita, also known as Mia and her siblings, Niska (Emily Berrington), Max (Ivano Jeremiah), and Fred (Sope Dirisu) were created by Dr. David Elster for his son Leo (Colin Morgan). Leo was sick as a child and needed special attention. He grew up with the synths and considers them his siblings. After Dr. Elster commits suicide, Leo and the synths go on the run for fear of being discovered. They are separated when Mia, Niska and Fred were taken by synth hunters and sold and reprogrammed. Leo and Max have set out to find them and reunite their family once and for all.

At the same time, we get to see the human reaction to the synths. The Hawkins family displays the mixed emotions that humans have about the synths. Some love the synths, even fall in love with synths. Others are skeptical, some are resentful, and there are a few humans who want to be just like the synths. It is clear that the line between who’s more human is blurred. Where there is love there is hate. People can do some despicable things in the name of hate and believe it’s all for the preservation of the human race. And there are people who want to help the synths, like Mattie Hawkins (Lucy Carless). Although Mattie resented Anita in the beginning, she quickly found an interest in Anita’s origin. That led her to Leo and together, they discover things that could change the world.
SPOILER ALERT!
In season two, Leo and Mattie found the code to wake up the rest of the synth population. They had to use the code to save Mia after she sacrificed herself to take out a rogue synth. Now that every synth is self aware, how will the human population react? Here’s the season synopsis released by AMC:
Humans 3 provides a thrilling look at the evolution of technology and its effect on society; timely and relevant, the new season unfolds on a bigger scale than ever before, in a deeply divided Britain, and continues to ask the question, are sentient synths entitled to be treated as human?”
