Rosamund Pike will lead the cast of Amazon’s adaptation The Wheel of Time. Pike will portray Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the ‘Aes Sedai’. Pike is credited as a producer on the series, as well.
The television series based on The Wheel of Time fantasy novels by Robert Jordan. The story spans over fourteen books, a prequel novel and two companion books. Fantasy author Brandon Sanderson completed the final three books after Jordan’s death. The novels have sold over 90 million copies worldwide and has spawned many games and music.
Sony and Amazon announced the development of the series in October 2018. Amazon’s description of the series says, “The Wheel of Time is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it. The story follows Moiraine as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, a powerful individual who will either save humanity or destroy it.”
Executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins adapted the novels for television. Executive producers also include Larry Mondragon and Rick Selvage of Red Eagle Entertainment, Ted Field and Mike Weber of Radar Pictures, Darren Lemke, Marigo Kehoe and Uta Briesewitz. Jordan’s widow Harriet McDougal and Sanderson will serve as consulting producers.
This is pretty exciting. I think Rosamund Pike is a excellent actress. Her role in Gone Girl was so captivating and jaw dropping. I have no doubt she will do the role justice and be just as commanding as Moiraine.
