Deadline is reporting that Robert Aramayo will replace Will Poulter in the upcoming Lord of the Rings Amazon series. Aramayo is known for his role as young Ned Stark in Game of Thrones. Poulter exited the role due to scheduling conflicts. The report is not confirmed by Amazon or Aramayo’s reps.
Aramayo will play the lead, only referred to as Beldor. He joins rumored cast, inlcuding another Game of Thrones alum Joseph Mawle, Morfydd Clarkk, Ema Horvath, and Markella Kavenagh. Amazon has not confirmed any of the cast. In fact, details about the story are being kept under tight wraps.
We do know the show will take place in the Second Age, before the events of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy. A video and map released by the creative team of the series confirmed this. Some news sources are speculating that the show will be about the Númenor, a kingdom of men who were the first to defeat Sauron. The kingdom was destroyed by the end of the Second Age. Aragorn is a descendant of the the first king of Númenor.
J. A. Bayona signed on to direct two episodes. Belén Atienza, Bruce Richmond Gene Kelly, and Lindsey Weber are serving as executive producers. Ron Ames is co-producing. Tom Shippey is serving as Tolkien scholar and John Howe as illustrator/concept artist.
Amazon’s target release date for the Lord of the Rings series is 2021, with season two premiering shortly after.
