The Wheel of Time television series from Amazon Prime announced five main cast members today. We already know who is playing the role of the Aes Sedai Moiraine, that was announced in June. She will be played by Rosamund Pike who is also serving as a producer on the show. Today, we found out who our young heroes from Emond’s Field will be. Josha Stradowski will play Rand Al’Thor, Marcus Rutherford will play Perrin Aybarra, Zoe Robin will play Nyneave, Barney Harris will play Mat Cauthon and Madeleine Madden will play Egwene Al’Vere.

Something to note in the announcement is the diversity of the Two Rivers’ folk. This is wonderful. Usually when fantasy translates to screen and television, it stays pretty white. Looks like team behind Wheel of Time will be bucking this trend and we’re here for it. Here’s announcement from The Wheel of Time Twitter account!!

The Wheel of Time is based on Robert Jordan’s fantasy series spanning 14 books. The final three books in the series were written by fantasy author Brandon Sanderson after Jordan’s passing. It is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it. Meaning that in this series — women hold the keys to power. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the ‘Aes Sedai’ as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women. Moiraine’s interested in these five because she believes one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, whom prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it.

Executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins adapted the novels for television Executive producers also include Larry Mondragon and Rick Selvage of Red Eagle Entertainment, Ted Field and Mike Weber of Radar Pictures, Darren Lemke, Marigo Kehoe and Uta Briesewitz.  Jordan’s widow Harriet McDougal and Sanderson will serve as consulting producers.
