Amazon released a beautiful video today stating “Meet our Fellowship” during their TCA appearance. The video introduces the creative team behind the upcoming Lord of the Rings series. It’s an incredible understatement to say that the creative team includes the most brilliant and artistic minds in the industry. Amazon Prime is really going all out on the series but if you are going to bring J.R.R. Tolkien to the small screen, there is no other choice. Another thing to note in the creative team’s introduction video is diversity. (I’m looking at you Game of Thrones)
The video is beautiful and starts with an old typewriter, a model that Tolkien himself may have used himself to write his famed stories of Middle Earth. We then see a map of Middle Earth, we see Elvish writing, we see the words “The Second Age” and a place on the map, the island Númenor. These are all indicators on what the series will be about. We know that it takes place during the Second Age, long before the events in Lord of the Rings. During The Second Age, Middle Earth saw the first defeat of Sauron, Númenor was a kingdom of men but is destroyed by the end of that age. Aragorn is a descendent of the first King of Númenor.
