There were so many Marvel announcements today at the Disney Investor Day. It’s all the news we’ve been waiting for and more. Is your head spinning? Mine is! Let’s take a look at coming for us.
DISNEY PLUS SERIES
There were four trailers today for the Marvel series on Disney Plus. WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and Marvel’s What If…? What If…? is an original animated series set to premiere in Summer 2021 on Disney Plus. It poses the question, “what if?” What if Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) was the super soldier instead of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans)? What if Yondo (Michael Rooker) was sent to Earth to retrieve T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) instead of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt)? You get the idea. Check out the trailer below.

Ms. Marvel
Marvel introduced the world to Ms. Marvel, starring Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan. Kamala Khan is a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. She is a great student, avid gamer, and voracious fan-fic scribe, and a big fan of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). The cast also includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer and Nimra Bucha. And episodes of Ms. Marvel will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Watch the Ms. Marvel featurette below.
Ms. Marvel is set for a late 2021 premiere.
QUICK UPDATES
Hailee Steinfeld is Kate Bishop in Hawkeye, starring opposite Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye. The Marvel Studios’ series will also introduce deaf, Native American actress Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, aka deaf, Native American superhero Echo. The cast also includes Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee and Zahn McClarnon. Rhys Thomas and directing duo Bert and Bertie will direct episodes.
Moon Knight is definitely coming to Disney Plus. But Marvel did not announce who would play Marc Spector. Oscar Isaac is rumored to have the part, but for now, that’s just hearsay. Mohamed Diab will direct Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight.
It’s official. Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk in Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk. Tim Roth returns as the Abomination with Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, the Hulk. Kat Coiro and Anu Valia will direct.

NEW SERIES
Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury with Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos in Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion. If you recall, Nick Fury was in space at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, while Talos was posing as the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director on Earth. So maybe now we’ll get some answers about Fury is up to.
Dominique Thorne portrays inventor Riri Williams in Marvel’s Ironheart. Ironheart is an original series about the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.
We got a glimpse of what might happen if Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) tech fell into the wrong hands in SpiderMan: Far From Home. In Marvel Studios’ Amor Wars, Don Cheadle returns as James Rhodes aka War Machine to make sure that doesn’t happen.
We have a year to get ready for the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. James Gunn will write and direct the Marvel Studios’ special set to air ahead of the third Guardians of the Galaxy film. Guardians of the Galaxy’s third film will debut in 2023.
The world needs more Groot. I Am Groot will feature a series of Marvel Studios’ shorts about the seedling and some new and unusual characters.
MOVIE NEWS
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings wrapped up filming. It is set to premiere on July 9, 2021. Marvel Studios’ released a photo of the cast via Twitter.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness
Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Doctor Strange with Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness . Joining the cast are Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez. The film ties to WandaVision & the next Spider-Man film. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness will premiere in theaters on March 25, 2022.
Captain Marvel 2
Ms. Marvel‘s Iman Vellani will join Brie Larson and the cast of Captain Marvel 2. Nia DaCosta directs the sequel that will also feature WandaVision‘s Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. The film will premiere on November 11, 2022
Thor: Love and Thunder
Christian Bale officially joins the cast as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. Gorr is the villain of the film, obviously out to slay all of the gods across the cosmos. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson. Taika Waititi is directing.
Fantastic Four
As we expected, Fantastic Four is coming to the MCU. Jon Watts will direct the film. The big question is, will we see the origin of the heroes yet again? Or will Marvel Studios find a new way to introduce the family?
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania
Kang the Conqueror is coming to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer are all returning for the third Ant-Man film. Jonathan Majors, from Lovecraft Country joins the cast as Kang the Conqueror, “a menace throughout time, on a journey to become the ruler of the Universe.” Kathryn Newton also joins the cast, playing the older version of Cassie Lang. Ant-Man director Peyton Reed is returning to direct.
Black Panther II
And finally, Marvel Studios announced plans for Black Panther II. Marvel will not recast the character King T’Challa to to honor the legacy of Chadwick Boseman. According to marvel.com, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer said the sequel will continue to explore the incomparable world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film. Ryan Coogler returns to write and direct the sequel, scheduled for release on July 8, 2022.
Whew! That’s a lot of content over the next few years. And some interesting selections make me think a epic big bad is headed our way. Thanos was bad, but there are worse baddies out there in the MCU. I’m excited!
