Highlights

  • The first major villain cast in Amazon MGM Studios/Mattel’s live-action Masters of the Universe film is the evil warrior goddess Evil-Lyn.
  • Alison Brie will take on the role, supporting the as-yet-uncast Skeletor and opposing heroes Camila Mendes and Nicholas Galitzine as Teela and Prince Adam/He-Man, respectively.
  • The film is the latest in a string of franchise reboots.

Eternia’s first supervillainess has arrived. Skeletor’s second-in-command (but first-to-stab-him-in-the-back), Evil-Lyn, has been cast in the Masters of the Universe live-action film. Alison Brie‘s polishing up her magical power moves and wicked cackle.

Evil-Lyn

First imagined as a balance figure to Teela, Evil-Lyn burst forth as Skeletor’s chief-of-staff, as it were. Far more intelligent and devious than the rest of his minions, she dreams of overthrowing him and ruling Eternia. He often leaves her in charge at Snake Mountain when busy elsewhere. However, Skeletor is fully aware he may return to a full-out coup.

For those of us who got to know Brie first as Trudy Campbell on AMC’s Mad Men, she may not be the first face to spring to mind for the scenery-chewing villainess. However, she’s shown range throughout her career. Firstly, as Community‘s overachiever, Annie Edison. Her dramatic turns on Peacock’s Apples Never Fall, Apple TV+’s Roar and Netflix’s GLOW demonstrate she’s got the chops to give Evil-Lyn a truly multi-faceted treatment.

Masters of the Universe

Based on the 1980s cartoon series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the Amazon MGM Studios/Mattel Films motion picture is the latest in a wealth of recent franchise reboots. In 2018, Netflix premiered a retelling of She-Ra with She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Then, in 2021, Netflix launched two separate animated He-Man series: Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation and the CGI-animated Masters of the Universe.

This motion picture version has been a going concern since 2019, with a series of actors cast in various roles before COVID-19 delayed production.

Masters of the Universe will hit theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026.
