Be aware, the below trailer is red band, meaning it is not suitable for all audiences and probably not suitable for work.  All of the promotional material up to this point has channeled less of the prequel Prometheus, and more of the movie that started it all, Alien.  The first full length trailer is no exception.

Set to a remix of a Nat King Cole song, Nature Boy, the haunting music is a direct counterpoint to the bleak landscape and horror that starts to play out on the screen.  Sure, it starts out with blood, running, and screaming but transitions to more quiet scenes with the android David (Michael Fassbender) and someone who I assume is Weyland.  We get serene shots of the planet, the crew, and the ship before devolving back into terror.

The plot has specifically been left vague, we don’t know what the mission is or the planet the crew is visiting.  We also don’t know the details behind David, a previous summary lists him as the same David that flew off with Naomi Rapace‘s character at the end of the prequel.  Well, at the very least, his head.  But there are so many questions surrounding his presence.  Did they crash land here?  Is this the home planet of the Engineers?  At least part of the movie will be flashbacks so hopefully we will actually get answers to these questions.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Alien: Covenant hits theaters May 19, 2017.
