Alfred’s Getting His Own Series in a Batman Prequel PENNYWORTH

There’s something about Batman‘s butler Alfred Pennyworth that opens the mind to the imagination. Sure, we’ve explored his past a few times, but Pennyworth is set to bring a live action version of his story in 10 episodes to the screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Epix has ordered a prequel series about our favorite butler. So what do we know?

Sadly, not much. But the executive producers for Gotham are the masterminds behind the project. Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon have decided to explore Alfred’s past as a former special-forces officer living in London. But not only that, they intend to explore what working with Thomas Wayne was like. It’s currently unclear whether or not we’ll be exploring his special-forces missions in his prime or right before he leaves service. Epix president Michael Wright shared his excitement.

As genuine fans of these classic DC characters, as well as the incredibly talented Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, we couldn’t be more excited to make Epix the home of this series. We can’t wait to work with Bruno and Danny – along with Peter Roth, Susan Rovner, Brett Paul and the team at Warner Horizon – on this fantastic origin story.

Heller and Cannon were also excited saying, “Michael and his colleagues have created the perfect venue for original storytelling, and all of us working on ‘Pennyworth’ are thrilled to be on the Epix slate”. Details on casting have remained mum but one wonders if the Gotham showrunners would bring Sean Pertwee in, as the actor is currently portraying the character in that series. Though they’ve made it clear it is not a prequel to the prequel (Gotham). We’ll have to wait to find out more details but it’s interesting nonetheless.
