Spooky season is here and its official kickoff wouldn’t be complete without news surrounding Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot. Deadline broke the exclusive news that New Line has finally announced Alfre Woodward will be cast in the role of Dr. Cody. She will be joining Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh and Bill Camp in fighting the spread of vampires. The film also stars Spencer Treat Clark.

In King’s novel, Dr. Cody is a male character, but I see nothing wrong with the genderswap for the upcoming film. Especially knowing that Woodward is going to be taking on the role. In Salem’s Lot, Ben Mears (Pullman) returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot for inspiration for his next book. However, his hometown just to happens to be the feeding group of a bloodthirsty vampire.
New Line has reunited with the producing team from The Conjuring universe to bring Salem’s Lot to life. James Wan, Michael Clear, Roy Lee and Mark Wolper will be serving as producers from Atomic Monster and Vertigo. Director and screenplay writer Gary Dauberman will be heading the film.
