From a galaxy far, far away to the Marvel Cinematic Universe! As reported by Deadline, Alden Ehrenreich, known for portraying Han Solo in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, will trade in the Millennium Falcon for the superpowered antics of the MCU. According to Deadline, Ehrenreich will play a significant role in the upcoming Disney Plus live-action series Ironheart.
Ironheart stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a brilliant teenage inventor who creates the most advanced super-suit of armor since Tony Stark’s Iron Man getup. The Marvel series also stars Anthony Ramos, Manny Montana, Lyric Ross and Harper Anthony in undisclosed roles. Chinaka Hodge serves as head writer for the six-episode show.
The character of Riri Williams/Ironheart first burst onto the comic book scene in 2016 via her creators Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato. Williams, a 15-year-old engineering student, receives Tony Stark’s endorsement to become a superhero after he catches wind of her accomplishments.
Dominique Thorne will make her official MCU debut in Ryan Coogler‘s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to 2018’s critically lauded Black Panther. Wakanda Forever will hit theaters on November 11, 2022.
As for Alden Ehrenreich, the actor wrapped production on Christopher Nolan‘s A-list feature Oppenheimer. He’s also starring in next year’s Elizabeth Banks-helmed thriller Cocaine Bear and the Chloe Domont drama Fair Play opposite Bridgerton‘s Phoebe Dynevor.
While Marvel declined to comment on Deadline‘s exclusive news, these announcements favor more on the side of accuracy than not. Disney needs to make amends for not churning out a sequel to Solo, so it’s time they give the talented Ehrenreich another go.
Ironheart is expected to arrive on Disney Plus sometime next year. How do you feel about Alden Ehrenreich joining the cast? Sound off in the comments below!
