In an interview with Cinemablend in support of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, series showrunner Akiva Goldsman stated his ongoing support for the proposed sequel to Star Trek: Picard, tentatively titled Star Trek: Legacy. “Let me put it like this,” said Goldsman. “I signed the petition too.” Please note that this article includes spoilers for Picard season 3.
Star Trek: Legacy
Goldsman was referring to the Change.org petition calling for the continuation of the 25th-century storyline. The timeline was recently seen in Picard. In March 2023, as Picard season 3 won over viewers everywhere, season showrunner Terry Matalas tweeted that his continuation of the 25th-century storylines would be called Legacy and would follow “the Last Generation and the Next.”

When Picard season 3 concluded, the vision for the series became even more clear. For one thing, the season finale saw the USS Titan renamed to USS Enterprise-G in honor of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew. Furthermore, the newly promoted Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) is poised to take command of the flagship, aided by First Officer Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) and the La Forge sisters, pilot Sidney (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) and engineer Alandra (Mica Burton).

There is ample reason to greenlight the potential spinoff. For one thing, the ongoing Trekkie devotion to Star Trek: The Next Generation ensured that Picard season 3 performed better than any other Star Trek show Paramount+ has yet to release. Furthermore, demand for the series remains high. In fact, the aforementioned petition has now reached just 500 names shy of 60,000 signatures.
