Rory McCann as Baylan Skoll

The Hound is poised to travel to a galaxy far, far away. Rory McCann, known for playing Sandor Clegane, aka The Hound, in HBO’s smash hit Game of Thrones, will replace the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll in Ahsoka Season 2. Stevenson passed away after a brief illness in May 2023. The InSneider first reported the news.

McCann played The Hound on Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2019. His other notable credits include 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level as Jurgen the Brutal, 2007’s Hot Fuzz as Michael Armstrong and last year’s Knuckles miniseries as The Buyer. He also recently appeared in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II as General Tegula. McCann can next be seen in John Maclean’s thriller Tornado opposite Jack Lowden and Tim Roth.

Ahsoka

If you recall, the Season 1 finale, which aired on October 3, 2023, sees Skoll part ways with his apprentice, Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno). Hati joins the bandits on Peridea to pursue the Rebels, which includes Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). Our titular Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) arrives on Peridea and partakes in a lightsaber duel with Skoll.

However, Ahsoka eventually rides off on Skoll’s howler. We last see Skoll standing on the Monument to the Ones, gazing into the distance at an inexplicable energy source calling to him.

Season 1 stars Dawson, Stevenson, Bordizzo, Esfandi, Sakhno, David Tennant as Huyang, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. The series hails from Star Wars giant Dave Filoni, who also executive produces alongside Jon Favreau.

Ray Stevenson delivers a compelling, imposing, powerful performance in Season 1. He’s the perfect Baylan Skoll. I’ll miss seeing him onscreen. McCann also has a mighty screen presence, so I’m curious to see what he brings to the role.

Ahsoka Season 2 is purported to release in 2026, although it’s unclear when the series will go into production. Season 1 is now streaming on Disney+.
