It’s time to begin again. Disney unveiled the premiere date for the highly anticipated Ahsoka, three new photos and a tantalizing teaser. The teaser will also air as a TV spot tonight during the NBA Finals Game 3.

The latest live-action series from Lucasfilm boasts a simple premise, courtesy of Disney+ Press: “Set after the fall of the Empire, ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka‘ follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.”

Ahsoka‘s teaser mentions Grand Admiral Thrawn as the “heir to the Empire,” presumably a nod to Timothy Zahn‘s 1991 novel Heir to the Empire. Rumors are floating through the digital sphere that Dave Filoni‘s upcoming New Republic film, featuring an “Avengers-style meet-up on the big screen,” might be titled Star Wars: Heir to the Empire. Since we know this flick will conclude the interconnected stories from the Disney+ Star Wars series, it’s safe to assume we might see aspects of that novel adapted for the big screen.

The clip shows Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) reuniting with Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) after hearing about the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). Then, we see Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) speaking to a worried Republic Senate, which includes Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly). Sabine stares longingly at a hologram of Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) and shortly after appears to battle Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) with Ezra’s lightsaber.

At this point, there aren’t many Jedi left, as is stated in the teaser. That’s when Huyang (voiced by David Tennant) emerges with some wisdom: perhaps it’s time to begin again.

Ahsoka stars Rosario Dawson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Ivanna Sakhno, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant, Eman Esfandi, Lars Mikkelsen and the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll. Wes Chatham appears as Captain Enoch, and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.

The series is written and executive produced by Dave Filoni, with Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson and Carrie Beck executive producing alongside him. The show boasts a slew of directors, including House of the Dragon‘s Geeta Vasant Patel and The Mandalorian‘s Rick Famuyiwa

You can check out the three new photos and teaser below. Are you ready for action? Strap in for the thrilling, galactic ride of a lifetime when Ahsoka premieres on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, only on Disney+.
