AGENTS OF SHIELD Recap: (S05E19) Option Two

Agents of SHIELD

Ever since getting back from the future, the Agents of SHIELD haven’t been on top of their game.  And it’s only getting worse. YoYo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) killed Ruby Hale (Dove Cameron) last week after Daisy (Chloe Bennet) made a deal to work with General Hale (Catherine Dent)  to save Ruby. Daisy was very angry with YoYo for this and for helping Jemma (Elizabeth Henstridge) break out Fitz (Iain De Caestecker). Daisy is upset with Fitz for removing her power inhibitor.

At the same time, Coulson (Clark Gregg), Mack (Henry Simmons), and Deke (Jeff Ward) found out that General Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) was a sleeper cell. His mission was to get the seer Robin Hinton (Lexy Kolker) and take her to General Hale.  They stopped him and put him in holding.  Also, Deke admitted, but then took it back that he’s in love with Daisy.  He asked Coulson and Mack for love advice. Mack and YoYo are on the outs, after YoYo locked him up to get Fitz out.  And May (Ming-Na Wen) told Coulson that she loved him and he didn’t say anything…so they might be the wrong people to ask.

The team is not working well together, so anything that comes at them might have the upper hand.  Option one, let go of all beef and work together. And “Option Two”…well…

General Hale really did a number on Talbot.  He’s locked up but continues to repeat a series of numbers to himself.  Meanwhile Coulson tries to gain control of Team S.H.I.E.L.D.. They need to get rid of the gravitonium.  The plan is to release it release it into space.  During a team discussion, Daisy offers to take Carl Creel (Brian Patrick Wade), Robin and Polly Hinton (Lola Glaudini) to Tony Caine (Jake Busey).  Fitz will work with Deke and Jemma to get the Zephyr ready for space travel.  Coulson says they need to get this done quickly since Hale is missing. And that’s what started the biggest Team S.H.I.E.L.D. fight I’ve ever seen on this show.

Mack asks how Hale got away. Daisy explains that when YoYo killed Ruby, a gravity surge knocked everyone back and Hale slipped away.  YoYo feels bad about killing the girl but defends herself saying Ruby was a time bomb. Daisy yells back that YoYo doesn’t get to make those decisions.  Mack backs up Daisy by saying that at S.H.I.E.L.D., they don’t kill, they protect. YoYo continues with letting everyone know how psycho Ruby was and FitzSimmons back her up, saying that everyone should have seen her.  Mack jabs back with his inability to be there because he was locked up.  Then Daisy comes in with the question of why Fitz was even there.  They say if they weren’t there Ruby would be on the loose right now. YoYo finally shouts that it’s not about the decision to kill Ruby, it’s about the fact that they didn’t follow Daisy’s orders. She finishes with telling Daisy that they didn’t chose her as their leader, Coulson did. Coulson could have broken the loop by leaving Daisy in the future, but he didn’t and no one else got a say in it. Coulson stops the fight and says what’s done is done…it’s over.

May pulls Daisy aside after they adjourn. Tony Caine found something from the Deathlok program that could save Coulson’s life.  Daisy decides to go dark so she can retrieve it, without any objections from Coulson.

Deke tells Fitz that he thinks there are infinite parallel universes and he’s proof that you can move around the multiverse.   Fitz kind of agrees, but there’s also the possibility that it’s just one timeline with one unbreakable loop. Deke wants to stay in this timeline.  Fitz says there’s no way for them to know if they successfully change the future. It may come to that Deke has to blink out of existence. Jemma says no one really knows how it works and changes the subject. She gives him the substance needed for the Zephyr to be able to travel to space and Deke leaves.

Talbot wakes up and yells for Coulson. When Coulson finally comes to him, Talbot tells him that he set off a beacon and transmitted their coordinance through the beacon.  So what does this mean? Well an alien spaceship arrives above the lighthouse. It’s the Confederacy. And they have come for the gravitonium.  Alarms start going off, Deke starts freaking out, and General Rick Stoner (Patrick Warburton) appears to assist with the threat to the lighthouse.  Coulson makes the mistake of setting off the safety protocols for a nuclear threat. All of the doors close and the lighthouse is put on lockdown for 15 years.  The security screens go blank and Qovas (Peter Mensah) appears.  He tells Coulson that they want the gravitonium. He also reveals that General Hale gave them up.  So now the team have to prepare to be attacked. It’s okay though, because the lighthouse is on lockdown, right?

Mack and YoYo have a heart to heart.  She’s sad because Mack looks at her differently.  He reminds her that they promised each other that they wouldn’t lose themselves or each other.  YoYo remembers, but she needs Mack to trust her. Of course their distance could have something to do with YoYo’s new arms, but Mack promises her it’s not. Even though YoYo runs away sometimes, she always comes back. Mack says he may not be there when she does.  YoYo leaves and runs into May.  May says, right or wrong YoYo’s actions will change her and change how people see her..All she can do is make peace with it.

They walk into the control room where Coulson is trying to locate Daisy.   May reveals that Daisy has gone dark. She comes clean about the secret mission that could save Coulson’s life.  He doesn’t what that though. Finally, YoYo tells them about the talk she had with her future self. Daisy going dark is one of the events that future YoYo warned herself about.  She also tells them to stop the end of the world, they have to let Coulson die. May asks if they should have left him in the middle of nowhere to die. That triggers Coulson. He tells them that “they” can go anywhere they want.  The Confederacy has Hale’s transport device. They can get into the lighthouse easier than S.H.I.E.L.D. can get out.

The lights go out, Deke sees people arrive in the lighthouse and takes off running. He gets inside a vent and watches the new arrivals killing agents. Deke makes his way to the control room.  He knows exactly who this people are. They are called Marauders and they kill relentlessly and take whatever they want. Deke says he’s dealt with them before, but never fought back. They just gave the Marauders what they want and cleaned up the dead bodies after.  Coulson orders an evacuation. He tells Fitz to work on overriding the security system. Jemma is in charge of getting the gravitonium to the surface.

Daisy meets up with Caine, who mentions the activity going on in NYC (Avengers: Infinity War). Caine was able to track down some Hydra technology that John Garrett used.  He gives her the Centipede Serum and tells her to use it wisely. There is also an effective healing agent in the serum. He says they can’t find the source and gives her a map where he was told the serum was.  Daisy tells him it’s not a place.

Fitz is headed to override the security system and encounters the Marauders.  Just as one of the marauders is about to attack Fitz, Deke saves him with a fire extinguisher. They hide and find that the Marauders have destroyed the override system.  Fitz is able to radio everyone to let them know the Marauders have some kind of EMP device that renders all electronics useless. Mack finds them and takes them back to the control room.  They set up fires around the room so they can see when the Marauders get there.

YoYo cuffs Talbot and they head for the control room.  They get cut off, meet up with Agents Piper (Briana Venskus) and Davis (Maximilian Osinski), and head for the lab where Jemma is.  YoYo wants to get to the control room. She takes Piper and Davis to clear a path, leaving Jemma and Talbot to guard the gravitonium.  After YoYo leaves, Talbot finds the particle infusion chamber. He grabs an ICE gun and shoots Jemma. Talbot proceeds to turn everything on, get inside the chamber and infusing himself with all of the gravitonium.

The Marauders make it to the control room.  YoYo Davis and Piper are also fighting them off in the halls. There are so many of them, both teams are surrounded.  YoYo sees the Marauders get into the lab. They start to disappear and then a shadow of a man emerges from the lab.  YoYo goes inside the lab and finds that Jemma is okay. The particle infusion chamber is still on, but the gravitonium is all gone.

Coulson and his team are running out of ammo. Coulson gets knocked down and looks up to see Talbot walking into the room.  He clenches his hands and the Marauders start folding out of existence.  Talbot uses his powers to take him and Coulson out of the lighthouse and into the sky.

Elsewhere, Daisy looks for her mother’s grave and starts digging her up.

Thoughts

Coulson is gone again!  They are putting him in so much danger and away from the team.  Maybe he is going to die.

The Marauders weren’t the aliens I was expecting. I was expecting the Kree. We still have time for them to come.

Nice shout out to the Avengers: Infinity War.  I was wondering if there might be a tie-in. Maybe there will be.

These last few episodes have been so action packed! I hate that the show is only an hour!  I’m excited to see what happens next.
