Updated on:

In the future, there is a prophecy that the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would save humanity. They came, they saw, and now they want to go home. Saving humanity is just a bonus. Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) has the details of how to get home. It’s just a matter of getting back to the Lighthouse, to help Mack (Henry Simmons), Yo Yo (Natalia Cordova-Berkley) and Flint (Coy Stewart) save what remains of the human race.

The Kree leader, Kasius (Dominic Rains) has other plans, in particularly for Daisy/Quake (Chloe Bennet) and every Inhuman within his reach. Can Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team save humanity and return home? Or will they continue to repeat the actions that lead up to the destruction of Earth? In “Past Life,” the agents race against time to save everyone at the Lighthouse and get the monolith built. Will everyone make it?

Kasius knew that S.H.I.E.L.D. were coming. His seer told him exactly where they would land. The Zephyr lands on the lighthouse, and Kasius enters. He finds Sinara’s dead body, but no one else. Kasius takes Sinara (Florence Faivre) back to his doctor and tells him to fix her. The doctor says the resurrection technology won’t work on Kree DNA, so Kasius kills him.

A guard brings Robin’s pictures to Kasius. This is where Kasius pretty much loses it. He starts talking to Sinara. He tells her that it was his father who conquered Earth, forcing Quake to destroy it. After looking at the pictures, he knows that S.H.I.E.L.D. is trying to return to the past so the future, his present, won’t happen.

Kasius summons his Inhuman trainer. He wants to use the Inhumans to take on S.H.I.E.L.D. The trainer says the Inhumans are not ready. Kasius pulls out a berserker juice to make them ready. The first subject, the trainer, is let loose.

Coulson and team arrive at the Lighthouse via containment pod. Here’s the plan: Coulson, May, Daisy, and Deke (Jeff Ward) will get the rest of humanity and any Inhumans to the trawler, that Tess (Eve Harlow) will drive. Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) will meet Mack, YoYo, and Flint to get the monolith built. Enoch (Joel Stoffer) remains on the Zephyr to turn on the device that will help power the monolith. Sounds easy, right?

Tess tells YoYo about the dead Inhumans that Kasius brings back to life. YoYo is determined to save as many Inhumans as possible. Mack doesn’t like the idea, but there’s no stopping YoYo.  On their way to meet FitzSimmons, Mack invites Flint to return to the past with them. He says Flint always has a home with him and YoYo.

Coulson’s team save a group of Inhumans. Deke gets a chance to shoot a gun and really likes it. The Inhuman trainer tries to stop them. Coulson and Daisy fight him off, but he’s extremely powerful. He tells them that he feels no pain. Daisy is able to beat him down and kills the trainer.

Kasius just stares at Sinara, while his guard tells him they need a plan. Kasius says he has failed. He lost Sinara and the Inhumans. He wants to give his father everything he’s desired. Kasius takes the berserker juice and says it’s time to send one last message.

Deke and May lead the Inhumans to the trawler where Tess is waiting. Coulson sees her discomfort and tells her that he’s been through something similar. She says she sees things differently, and is unsure of what is real. He tells her that the trawler is real and worth the cost. Tess says he was right. They can fight back.

YoYo goes into the Inhuman quarters and finds her past self. Future Elena is one of the Inhumans that has been resurrected. She tells YoYo that Kasius uses her for her blood. They have resurrected and killed her several times. This time Kasius asked her about everything that S.H.I.E.L.D. did to get back to the past. Elena told him because she new that YoYo was coming.  She tells YoYo that they make it back in time, but bring everything that’s to come. Since they’ve been stuck in a loop there’s no way to know how to fix everything.

On the Zephyr, Enoch radios Coulson to let him know that the Kree have located them. He kills one of the guards and that gives him about twelve minutes before the others find him.  Since the monolith will not work without the device on the Zephyr, someone has to go back to secure it. Deke says he will go to the Zephyr. The others are from the past and have to go back to save the world. Daisy offers to go with him, but they fight one last time. Deke says that his parents were believers and now he has to see if it was worth it. Besides, Daisy has to be a hero. He tells her not to destroy anything when she gets back.

HENRY SIMMONS, COY STEWART

Simmons explains to Flint on how to feel what the monolith is made of. He say he can feel gaps. They know how to fill those gaps. This part of the plan is that Flint will go out into space to gather the rock that he needs to rebuild the monolith.  The Kree find them and enter the room. Fitz flicks a switch that pulls a wire across their faces, cutting off their heads. Simmons is shocked, but Fitz says the Kree have to be afraid of them.

Daisy tells Coulson and May that she’s not going back. They both try to talk her out of staying saying that she doesn’t even have her powers. She knows she will get her powers back eventually and then end up destroying everything. She says this is a solution that works and will keep the earth in tact. Coulson won’t accept what Daisy is saying. He ICEs Daisy to knock her out. When he goes to pick her up, he looks at his chest. Something is taking over his blood stream causing his veins to look black. He hides his chest and puts the ICE gun away.

Elena tells YoYo that Coulson is sick. The team makes a decision to save him, out of loyalty. This will ruin everything. Coulson is dying and they have to let him.  YoYo is shocked. Elena says they’ve had this conversation many times.   The Kree are coming. YoYo wants to take Elena back with her. Elena says that is not her path. She shows YoYo that her arms have been cut off. Elena tells YoYo to leave.

Flint is floating in space, pulling rocks together. The Kree guards see him floating outside. He pushes the rocks through the window, causing the air to suck out the guards. Mack comes in to lower the shield door. The team has arrived in Kasius’ chambers, ready to go home.

The Kree get into the room where Enoch is working. Deke arrives in time to save him, but the Kree broke the device. The only way to fix it, is to use Enoch’s battery to power it. This will make Enoch explode. It will also decimate the Zephyr and the top few floors of the Lighthouse.

MING-NA WEN, CLARK GREGG

Flint rebuilds the monolith, but YoYo hasn’t come back yet. Mack goes to find her. Daisy frees one of Kasius’ slaves by pulling out the silencing device from her ears.  Mack finds Kasius with Elena in the fighting pit. Kasius takes the berserker juice and kills Elena. He jumps down to the gladiator pit and starts fighting Mack. He says he won’t let them go back to the past.

Coulson radios Enoch to let them know that the monolith is ready. As soon as Deke hooks up Enoch to the device, Enoch starts to fade fast. Deke radios Coulson to let him know what happened. They are out of time.  Coulson tells Flint to take the girl and go. Flint wants to say goodbye to Mack and YoYo, but there’s no time.

Mack is getting beat down by Kasius. Kasius stops to taunt Mack, long enough for Simmons to sneak up behind him and put the silencing device in his ear. Kasius turns to Simmons and Mack kills him. Mack starts to tell Simons that YoYo is dead, but YoYo arrives. She explains that the woman he saw wasn’t her. They leave to meet the others.

Deke calls in to Coulson. He says they have to go now. All of Enoch’s power is going into the device. They call Mack, Simmons and YoYo saying the monolith is opening. Deke watches the device explode and the monolith takes over the room.

In the trawler, Flint tells Tess that Deke didn’t make it out. He was standing too close to the blast. S.H.I.E.L.D. gave them a second chance and there’s a lot that needs to be fixed. Tess hands Flint a mini globe, saying it’s his blueprint.

Thoughts

Whew! That was close!  So that ends the Agents of SHIELD Space adventure. So now what? Coulson is dying.  I wonder if that has anything to do with his 15 minutes as the Ghost Rider?  Can Elena convince everyone let Coulson die? How long does he have? Does Daisy get her powers back? And will she stop herself from destroying Earth?  Will Fitz and Simmons actually get married?  She seemed pretty shocked by his new found sense of ruthlessness that he displayed on this adventure.

Poor Deke! I liked that guy.  I guess he’s not the grandson of FitzSimmons, but that would have been a neat connection.

I honestly kept expecting Tess to turn on everyone, but she didn’t.  With a handful of humans in the trawler, the future looks bleak for humanity.  I guess we’ll never really know what happens to them.

Oh Daisy!  Of course she wasn’t going to stay in the future.  The show wouldn’t be the same without her.  She’s going back with the inhibitor in her head.  Her head is also full of a possible future that she doesn’t want to cause.  I wonder how long before she’s okay with being Quake.

The show is taking a little break.  Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be back in March.  And then we get to see what kind of shenanigans will happen when the agents return to their time.
