The Agents of SHIELD have been tested through space and time…literally. They’ve always figured out a way to save themselves and the world if need be. This time is different. They were sent into the future against their will. The one person who could give them answers died. The only thing they knew was the prophecy that SHIELD is supposed to save humanity. When they got to their destination, they found the earth had been quaked and humanity was scarce.
Last week, the team was able to escape the Kree leader Kasius (Dominic Rains) and headed to what’s left of the Earth’s surface. May (Ming-Na Wen) is on the surface, courtesy of Kasius. She was saved and taken to the Zephyr where she found Robin Hinton (Willow Hale).

In “The Last Day,” the show flashes back and forth between time as Robin remembers how to get the team back to their time.
Flashback
Robin Hinton (Ava Kolker) is a young girl and remembers being on the Zephyr with May, Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They are talking about some kind of disaster that caused gravity storms.
In the future, May sits with Robin on the Zephyr. A man named Voss (Michael McGrady) tells May that she stopped making sense. His guys are preparing to go out to the surface to retrieve the rest of May’s friends. She asks Voss how he knows they are out there. Robin told him they were coming. They look up and see the trawler crashing.
Coulson (Clark Gregg) finally shows up at the Zephyr with Daisy (Chloe Bennet), FitzSimmons and Deke (Jeff Ward). Voss is happy to see Deke. He tells him that his father, Owen, is at a communication tower. Deke is a little upset that Virgil didn’t tell him about the operation.
Kasius is angry that Daisy and her friends escaped. He sends Sinara (Florence Faivre) after Daisy. He decides to make the humans left in the lighthouse pay for SHIELD’s escape. The lights and water are turned off on Level 10. The people start getting scared. They blame Flint for what is happening, saying they are being punished because he ran away. They want to turn him in. Mack stops them from yelling at Flint and they leave for Level 3.
WILLOW HALE, CLARK GREGG, MING-NA WEN
May takes Coulson to see Robin. She tells them that only Phil Coulson can piece everything together. This is the day it all ends.
Coulson, Daisy and May talk about their situation. Coulson says they will need Quake to save everyone in the lighthouse. Daisy reminds them that she has an inhibitor in her neck. Coulson sends her to FitzSimmons to remove it. He goes back to Robin to see if they can make sense of what she is saying.
Daisy finds Deke. He’s a little angry that everything he’s been told is a lie. He tells Daisy that he knows Robin. She used to tell Virgil stories when they were younger. Deke’s father was sent to the surface for believing Robin’s stories. Deke is anxious to see his dad. He blamed his dad for his mom’s death and hopes his dad can forgive him.
Yo-Yo, Flint and Mack get to Level 3. Yo-Yo runs through the level looking for the roaches. Flint is scared. He says being killed by a roach is better than being killed by his friends though. Mack sees a Kree guard spraying something. He takes part of a pipe and leaves.
Fitz and Simmons look around the Zephyr. They find something that wasn’t on the Zephyr before. Voss comes in and tells them Deke’s father built it. They used it to open the portal that brought the team to the future. Voss leaves the lovebirds alone. It’s the first time they’ve been alone since reuniting. Awwwww…
MING-NA WEN, WILLOW HALE, CLARK GREGG
Coulson and May ask Enoch (Joel Stoffer) about how he got Robin to talk to him. He says her power can’t be forced. They will have to wait until she can talk to them. May says they don’t have time to wait. They have to save themselves and the others at the lighthouse. Robin hands her a drawing of the zephyr.
Flashback
May, Fitz and Simmons discuss Robin’s prophecy about a time machine. Fitz is frustrated. He says it will take decades for them to design the schematics. Robin gives May a drawing of the Zephyr to remind her. She tells Fitz that he gave them everything he could.
Mack and Flint find the weapons that Fitz hid on Level 3. Yo-Yo runs through the level and says the roaches are gone. They look outside the room and the elevator is propped open. They hear screams from the lower levels. The Kree released the roaches on Level 10. They go back to Level 10 and find a lot of dead bodies.
Coulson and May check out Voss’ locker of weapons. They find part of a monolith. Coulson says if they find more, they can get home. Voss says that is the only piece they have. He asks Coulson to help him save humanity first. Coulson says okay, but he needs to show the monolith to FitzSimmons.
Simmons examines Daisy’s inhibitor. It’s embedded too deep. If they make a wrong move, they could paralyze Daisy. Coulson shows them the monolith fragment. Fitz figures out that it fits into the new device. Deke’s father is returning to the Zephyr. If they can get him to show them how the device works, they can get to their own time.
Flint, Mack and Yo Yo find a survivor on Level 10. She tells them that the roaches are everywhere. Mack comes up with a plan to save the remaining humans.
Flashback
Robin follows May through the hallway of the lighthouse, repeating the name Flint. Yo Yo walks up to them with a weapon in hand. She tells May that she’s not giving up her freedom. May tells her they have to work with them or they will all die. Robin says Mack will help Flint. Yo Yo yells that Mack is gone and he’s not coming back.
Deke recognized the monolith piece. He tells Voss that it belonged to his mother. He wants to know how it got in Voss’ locker. Voss says his dad put it there for safekeeping. Deke knows Voss is lying. He asks Voss what he did to his dad. Voss hits Deke in the head, knocking him out.
Mack directs the gas from Level 3 to Level 10 to send the roaches into the same room. Yo Yo is waiting for them in the salvage. She runs through them all putting a device on each of them. The device kills and disintegrates them into dust. Flint is impressed.
WILLOW HALE
Daisy visits Robin and apologizes for not being able to protect her. Robin says there was something she was supposed to tell her Mom. She tells Daisy that time is running out. Robin gets scared and pulls her blanket over her face. Voss is listening. He tells Daisy that he’s had similar conversations. Daisy pulls the curtains on Robin’s room to talk to Voss.
Fitz and Simmons continue to study the time machine. Fitz thinks he figured it out. He leaves to get the rest of the team and the door is locked. He starts shouting for help. Coulson and May hear him screaming and go to check it out. Two of Voss’ men are standing outside the door. One of them tells Coulson and May not to put up a fight.
Voss shows Daisy footage from the Zephyr. It was the last time anyone saw Daisy alive. He says shortly after, the earth experienced a 12 point earthquake and cracked. He asks her if it was preventable.

Flashback
Fitz drags Robin to May. Robin keeps saying there no time left. Fitz is upset because Robin described Simmons’ death to him. He tells May they’ve tried too many times and it never works. They are stuck in a time loop. He says they can’t fix it, not Voss, not Daisy and not even he could fix it. He says Daisy saw the aftermath and she still destroyed the world.
Voss pulls a knife on Daisy. He says he needs to kill her to stop her from going back. Daisy fights back. Robin watches from her room. Voss tells Daisy that he can’t let Robin give her the answers and stabs Robin. Coulson and May come in the room and fight off Voss’ men. May finds Robin bleeding out. Robin says May promised to be there in the end. She calls May ‘Mom.’
So here’s what happened. May escaped with Robin, Fitz and Simmons when Daisy destroyed the world. They made it to the lighthouse where the Kree had already taken over. May raised Robin because she wasn’t afraid of her powers. May called it a gift. Robin is supposed to tell May how to get home. May always told her it wasn’t time. Now they are reunited. Robin can see how May saves the world. Robin whispers to May what she needs to do and dies. The others watch as Robin dies. Voss tells Daisy to remember this moment when she destroys the world. And he hopes she remembers that he tried to stop her.
Flint tells the survivors on Level 10 that the roaches are dead. Mack tells them not to let Kasius pit them against each other. Yo Yo starts removing the metrics from everyone’s arms.
Daisy finds Deke locked up in Voss’ locker. They know that Deke’s father is dead. Daisy tells him that Robin has passed as well.
May covers Robin’s body. The team and Enoch look on. They are all sad about her passing. Deke says they have to stay on the Zephyr until the storm passes. May tells everyone that Robin told her how to save everyone. She asks them who Flint is.
Someone enters the bridge of the Zephyr. Kasius watches from a handheld device. Sinara removes her mask and ask for his orders. He tells her to follow their trail, find their weakness, and show no mercy to any human she encounters.
Thoughts
Interesting episode…let me see if I got this figured out. The agents are in a time loop. The first time this happened, something set off Daisy to cause a 12-point earthquake that broke the world. May, Fitz, Simmons, and Robin escaped together and made it to the Lighthouse that the Kree took over. Yo Yo survived as well, but Mack died. What about Coulson?
So the earth broke, the Kree enslaved humanity for 70 something years. The Kree leaders bred people with inhuman abilities so they could profit off of their powers, promising a rich live for their families. During the 70 years, FitzSimmons created a time machine, but died before it was finished. May raised Robin Hinton as her own daughter.
The Kree kill the smart humans. They send people to the earth’s surface who threaten their rule. Robin Hinton was one of these people. She survives along with Deke’s father, who took over FitzSimmons’ research and he completed the time machine. Virgil found the people on the surface and started working with them to transport the 2017 SHIELD team to the future to fulfill a prophecy that SHIELD would return and save humanity. Something keeps going wrong and they have to start all over again. Fitz says that even though Daisy saw the aftermath, she still destroys the world. So something has to change this time. Is that something Flint?
Talk about twists and turns. I’m excited to see how the team gets back. First they have to deal with Sinara and Kasius. Such great villains! This season has definitely got me on the edge of my seat!
