For the first time all season, everyone on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on the same planet. But there’s no time for warm reunions in “Collision Course (Part II).” In Part I, Sarge (Clark Gregg) revealed that he has been chasing a monster who is destroying planets. This monster killed his family and Sarge is determined to repay the favor. That monster just happens to be the creator of the Shrikes. Sarge has been tracking the Shrikes and they are getting together to welcome “Her” to Earth.
Is it just a coincidence that Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) are traveling to Earth with a woman named Izel (Karolina Wydra)? Of course not. Izel told the scientists that she is looking for artifacts stolen from her. These stolen objects match the description of the monoliths that were destroyed in season five. Mack (Henry Simmons) got intel that confirms our suspicion that Izel is the creator of the Shrikes. She also infested her ship with Shrikes.
Izel is about to land on Earth. Sarge sent his truck in a collision course with Izel’s welcoming tower, and Daisy (Chloe Bennet), May (Ming-Na Wen), Deke (Jeff Ward) and Snowflake (Brooke Williams) are in that truck. OH! And there’s a bomb. Remind me of who the real villain is again?
A lot of stuff happens in this episode. Let’s get to it.
Mack makes the decision to rescue May, Daisy, and Deke. Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) offers to take a quinjet to get close to the tower. Davis (Maximilian Osinski) will keep the Zephyr at a safe distance. Mack is confused. Sarge isn’t the martyr type, so why would he come all this way just to sacrifice himself for the Shrikes?
Maybe it’s because Sarge isn’t on the truck. He’s in the cargo bay of the Zephyr with plans to take over the ship. Pax (Matt O’Leary) warns him about Yo-Yo’s speed, but he has a device that will put up a shield so she can’t get to them. Jaco (Winston James Francis) asks about Snowflake and Sarge lies, saying she couldn’t make it out in time. The truth is he left her behind.
Fitz and Simmons are still working on the communication systems on the freighter. Simmons noticed some of the crew acting strangely last week, well now the entire crew is acting weird. They determine that there is an infection going around and they don’t want to catch it. Whether it’s a parasite or pathogen, they need to find out what’s causing it. Izel walks in with guards surrounding her. Simmons says she found the cause.
Izel enters the bridge and asks if they are ready to land. She is in good spirits, but FitzSimmons are wary of her and the crew. Izel says the crew was all mindless fools and she gave them a higher purpose. She realizes they are afraid they might end up like the crew. Izel says they are valuable because they are intelligent and can hold a conversation. She needs people who can see Earth’s potential. Izel is excited for them to see what she has built.
The Bomb Dot Com
Deke is freaking out in the truck because he’s basically the only person who can defuse the bomb. Daisy tries to be encouraging and May tells him not to screw up. And Snowflake…she more interested in becoming a part of the cosmos. Deke takes a deep breath and starts working on the bomb.
The Zephyr is almost in place. Yo-Yo is headed to the quinjet. Mack sends another agent to join her, but Sarge and Jaco walk in. They shoot the other agent and disarm Mack. Sarge says he’s taking over the ship. Jaco puts up a shield so no one can get on the bridge. If Mack tries to fight back, he will kill the agents. Mack tells Davis to do what Sarge says. At the same time, Yo-Yo finds the empty containment pod and an unconscious guard on the ground.
Deke realizes he can’t disarm the bomb. Everyone prepares to die as the truck collides with the tower. Daisy rushes at the bomb at the last second, using her quake powers to protect it. If it doesn’t collide with anything, it won’t go off. The tower falls and there are hundreds of Shrike flying around.
Sarge is shocked that the bomb didn’t go off and starts freaking out. At the same time, Izel can sense that her tower has been attacked. She gets suspicious of FitzSimmons, accusing them of knowing she would be attacked. They have no idea what she’s talking about. They say they can clear everything up and get help when they get in touch with their people. Izel allows them to continue working but moves the ship away from the surface just in case. She knows that ‘He’ is already on Earth.
Sarge orders Davis to follow the freighter. He looks at Mack for confirmation before Sarge asserts his leadership and holds a gun to Davis’ head. At the same time, Pax is putting a shield up in the engine bay when he encounters Yo-Yo. She runs by twice, once to take the shield device, and the next to take Pax’s gun. She attacks him, making his nose bleed and holding him against the wall. He says she’s too late, they’ve already taken the bridge. Yo-Yo says she will take it back, but Pax says they’re prepared for her.
Mack asks Sarge to take his people back to the surface and he can have the ship, but Sarge says it’s too late. Mack reminds him that Snowflake is still down there and Jaco wants to go back. He and Sarge argue about her worth when Pax shows up on the other side of the shield. He’s tied up and gagged, mumbling for help. Jaco wants to help, but Sarge tells him not to take the bait.
Yo-Yo runs up to Pax and pushes him into the shield, burning his face. Jaco lowers the shield to help him and Sarge shoots Pax in the chest. That was just enough time for Yo-Yo to run in and put something in Mack’s hand. Sarge puts the shield back up, with Jaco on the other side. He says no one slows them down and tells Jaco to find Yo-Yo. Mack looks in his hand and he has the key to the handcuffs.
May wants to see what their situation is outside of the truck. She opens the door and sees a lot of Shrike flying around. They shut the door quickly and Deke informs them that the repelling device is broken. The Shrike know where they are and start attacking the truck to get to them.
They start trying to find stuff to barricade all openings in the trailer. May finds a box of the blades that Sarge’s team uses to kill the shrike. She hands them out and says to keep everything away from the bomb. Deke sees a Shrike break through a glass window and starts screaming. May barely kills it before it enters Deke’s mouth. That would have shut him up for good.
Fitz almost has the communication system working and asks Simmons if the signal for distress is the same. Luckily it is. They hear the system turn on and make a call under the name S.H.I.E.L.D. 226. Davis answers her call, also under the name S.H.I.E.L.D. 226, which is obviously the distress call. Sarge knows it’s Izel and she’s listening. He takes over the conversation, confusing Fitz and Simmons. They think they are hearing Coulson.
Sarge and Izel have a conversation where they basically declare to kill each other. From this conversation, we find out that Sarge is not his real name…and he doesn’t know what his real name is. Sarge the reason Chronica II was destroyed, not Izel. He says he was exterminating the planet. She claims he was trying to be a hero. Izel reminds him of something he told her. People fantasize about doing something heroic, but in the end, save their own skin. She asks whose skin he’s saving now…maybe the one he’s wearing!
Sarge gets agitated, saying he can’t wait to kill her. She asks why and he says she stole his family, the woman he loves, his home and his memories of all of it. Izel takes another jab at him, saying he never had any memories of them. She cuts off communication, further infuriating Sarge.
Izel wants to know why Fitz recognized Sarge’s voice. She thinks they are conspiring against her. Fitz and Simmons explain that they know someone who sounds like Sarge, but that person is dead. Izel thinks they are lying and orders her Shrike to take them away. FitzSimmons are able to take the guards’ guns and escape the bridge. Izel sends her minions after the couple and they chase them down to a dead end. Fitz says he has an idea of where to hide, but Simmons won’t like it.
Jaco looks around the Zephyr for Yo-Yo. She runs by him twice. Once to take his gun and another to handcuff him. That’s cute. Jaco breaks the handcuffs easily. Yo-Yo prepares to go at him again, but he tells her to calm down. He says they are trying to save her planet. She reminds him that they are killing innocent people to do it. Jaco says sacrifices have to be made. They’ve been with Sarge for a while and weren’t always killers. Sarge knows what he’s doing. Yo-Yo asks what his family would want him to do. He says they would want him to stop the beast that took them away from him.
Sarge is anxious and tells Davis to fly faster, but they are going as fast as they can. Sarge suggests they drop some weight, like the crew. Mack starts taunting him, saying that Izel got the best of him in their war of words. He just wants to help Sarge because he’s having a bad day. His bomb didn’t explode, Jaco is missing, and Mack is pretty sure he will have his plane back by the end of the day. Sarge says Mack won’t make it to the end.
Mack throws the handcuffs at Sarge and rushes him. Sarge tries to shoot, but Mack pushes his arm down, making him drop the gun. The two of them start fighting all over the bridge. Davis tries to help, but Mack tells him to fly the plane. Sarge is pretty tough, but Mack is tougher. He tells Sarge to stand down, but Sarge is stubborn. Jaco shows up and says it’s over. Yo-Yo stands next to him to confirm. Mack hits Sarge one last time to knock him out and says ‘Toldja.’
Sarge wakes up in the containment pod. He sees Mack and his team getting ready to leave. He says they won’t make it out alive, but Mack won’t leave his people behind. Sarge asks to go with them. He’s studied Izel for years just to have an opportunity like this. He says they don’t understand what they’re up against. Yo-Yo agrees and says that’s why they’re taking Jaco with them.
The Shrike are trying to get into the trailer from every angle. May and her group are running out of things to barricade the openings. Daisy has an idea and tells the others to get behind her and protect the bomb. She opens the door to the trailer and stands back. The Shrike start flying in and Daisy quakes them into dust. Snowflake asks if all the women on the planet are this powerful. May says We Are.
Yo-Yo, Mack, Davis, and Jaco enter the freighter. Davis knows the ship pretty well so he takes point. Yo-Yo notices the crew is missing. They hear singing and Jaco identifies that voice is from Izel. Mack reminds him that they are there to capture, not kill. And to be cautious of the crew.
A member of that crew shows up and Jaco shoots him. Mack reminds Jaco again not to kill anyone, but the crew member gets up. He takes it back and tells Jaco to keep shooting. More crew members show up. Jaco and Davis hold them off while Mack and Yo-Yo look for FitzSimmons.
FitzSimmons are hiding in the walls. They hear gunfire and know the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are there. Two of the Shrike hear them and pull them out of their hiding place. Just as they are about to attack, something moves them to the side of the room, handcuffed to a pipe. Yo-Yo appears, with Mack closely behind. He sees Fitz, yells Turbo, and picks him up, hugging him tightly.
Davis and Jaco find Izel on the bridge. Jaco wants to go after her, but Davis reminds him of their orders. Jaco knows he will never get another opportunity to end all of this. So Davis lets him go. Davis goes around to the back entrant to the bridge while Jaco goes to the front. When they meet, she’s gone. A Shrike comes out from another door. Jaco disposes of him and they enter the doorway, hoping to catch Izel.
Yo-Yo and Mack lead FitzSimmons back to the place where they came in. Fitz confirms that the entire crew is infected. They run into Davis and Jaco. Jaco tells Mack that they almost had her and he wants to go back. Mack says they need to go. They are outnumbered and outgunned. When they get to the exit point, the Shrike are already there, boarding the quinjet.
There are too many Shrike for them to stand and fight. But there’s no other way out. Jaco knows of a way so Fitz leads them to the airlock. Once they are safely inside, Jaco hangs up his jacket, pushes a button and opens a breach back to Earth.
Daisy and May hear something on the roof. They think its the Shrike and prepare to fight. Fitz opens the door, much to everyone’s surprise. Deke runs up to him, calling him Bobo and telling him how happy he is to see him. The team is finally reunited. But Fitz is really confused about who Deke is.
May asks how they got there and Mack says because of Jaco. They all look at Jaco to thank him, but he’s preparing to leave with the bomb. He says to tell Sarge that he completed the mission. Yo-Yo says he doesn’t have to do this for Sarge, but he says he’s doing it for himself. Snowflake asks him not to go, but he tells her not to worry…soon he’ll be a butterfly. Jaco opens a breach and walks through with the bomb. When he gets on board the freighter, the Shrikes run at him. He blows fire at them and the ship blows up.
The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. return to the lighthouse to celebrate their victory. Mack still wants to hear about Daisy’s space adventures. She says she saw an ocean of lava. She didn’t think it could get any more bizarre but here they are. He asks where’s she’s been for the last five years.
Yo-Yo checks in with May. May says she should have killed Sarge when she first saw him. She’s mad at herself for buying into the idea that he might be Coulson. Yo-Yo says they all saw something in him that wasn’t there. May asked how Yo-Yo talked Jaco into helping them. She says she reminded him of what he was fighting for.
Deke is talking Fitz’s ear off. Deke can’t wait to show Fitz his company. He wants to take Fitz to Scotland to learn more about his family. He even offers to buy them a castle. Deke also wants them to meet Snowflake. He leaves to find her. Fitz thinks it’s weird that Deke calls him Bobo, but Simmons says that’s what he wanted to be called.
Agent Piper (Briana Venskus) is at the party asking Davis about the mission. He’s extremely tired and falls asleep. Snowflake is standing by the door, watching the guards move Sarge to a holding cell. As he walks by, he tells her it wasn’t personal. She lunges at him, but Deke stops her. He says she has a new family now. Daisy wants to know why Snowflake isn’t locked up. She’s a killer. He thinks Daisy is jealous, but Daisy says she’s a murderer and orders her to be put away.
Mack makes a toast to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Those who were there in the beginning and those who are new. To the ones they’ve lost and the ones who have returned. And to those who stand by you at your best and your worst. There are no Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. without them all.
After the party, everyone unwinds. Daisy unpacks after her long journey in space. Fitz and Simmons finally catch up after their ordeal. Piper takes selfies with a sleeping Davis. Deke puts a TV in Snowflake’s cell. And May stares at Coulson’s badge.
Mack goes to Yo-Yo to let her know that he knows he screwed up with her. He wanted to be a good director and thought worrying about her would compromise that. He also thought he could stop thinking about her. But now, he knows she can take care of herself. Mack isn’t asking for forgiveness, instead he’s asking for a chance to earn it. He says goodnight and starts to leave. Yo-Yo closes the door before he turns around. She says they can take it slow and kisses Mack.
May barges into Sarge’s cell. He doesn’t want to deal with her but tells her to get on with whatever she’s going to do. May pulls out a gun and shoots Sarge four times.
