Hold onto your butts, everyone! Captain Marvel began filming today and with that announcement came some casting news, we learned thanks to Deadline. The MCU has decided to bring some familiar faces back in for Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) origin story. It opens the door for a lot of potential and maybe a touch of redemption for one character? But as we go forward remember that this film will be set in the 90s so their appearance will make a lot more sense!
Now our first casting news is a bit of a no-brainer. Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) will be returning to the MCU. He would be in SHIELD before it’s demise and before his apparent demise and disappearance from the films. Lucky for fans, he’s still going strong (or is he?) on Agents of SHIELD. In exciting news, Lee Pace will be returning as Ronan the Accuser as well as Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer. Both these characters perished in the events of Guardians of the Galaxy, so what will they be doing in this film?

This is just a guess but I think Captain Mar-Vell (Jude Law) will have a mission on Earth by Ronan. When Mar-Vell doesn’t return, Ronan sends Korath to retrieve him. And it may be during this time that the explosion occurs where his DNA ends up fused with hers, giving her superpowers. That is a wild guess, but with Mar-Vell being Kree, it only makes sense for Ronan to be there. And it could be a good opportunity for Ronan to have a better arc. He was a little shafted as “bad guy wants power”in Guardians. It’ll also be nice to see Agent Coulson back in the MCU, too.
What do you think about the casting? Are you excited to see these characters again? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Marvel news. Captain Marvel flies into theaters March 8, 2019.
