An interview with Sasheer Zamata was posted on Mashable on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. The wide-ranging discussion included remarks regarding Jennifer Kale, Zamata’s witchy role in Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

The remarks were made in an interview conducted before the SAG/AFTRA strike. Zamata shared that she had already written material about witches in her comedy special The First Woman before being cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It felt magical that I got to be in a show about witches,” Zamata said. “I talk about it so much in my special.” Zamata also plays the role of Lunella’s mother on the ongoing Disney+ animated series Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

Details about the highly-anticipated WandaVision spin-off Agatha: Coven of Chaos have steadily been released over the past few months. In April 2023, Patti LuPone discussed her role as Lilia Calderu on The View. LuPone revealed that Calderu will be part of a coven that includes both Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and Aubrey Plaza‘s character, with Joe Locke as a familiar. Could Jennifer Kale be part of the same presumably eponymous coven?

Zamata mentioned conducting Marvel Comics research for the role. However, she clarified that the MCU incarnation of Jennifer Kale is a departure from the source material. “[T]he way we formed this character is very different from what I think people expect,” stated Zamata in the interview. However, this is no surprise. The details revealed by LuPone suggest many of the Marvel Comics characters appearing in Agatha: Coven of Chaos will be distinct from the source material that inspired them.
