Adam Scott Joins Sony and Marvel’s MADAME WEB

Adam Scott as Mark walking down an office hallway while wearing a white dress shirt and dark gray slacks on Severance.

From an office in a high-octane sci-fi thriller to the world of capes and spandex! Deadline reports that Emmy nominee Adam Scott will join the Sony and Marvel joint production Madame Web opposite Dakota Johnson in the title role.

Deadline divulges that Sony offers no comment regarding Scott’s casting, who recently starred in the critically lauded Apple TV Plus sci-fi thriller Severance. Scott received an Emmy nomination for his performance.

However, we do know that besides Scott and Johnson, the remainder of the cast includes Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Celeste O’Connor, Emma Roberts and Mike Epps. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless pen the script from a story by Kerem Sanga, with S.J. Clarkson at the director’s helm.

Madame Web first burst onto the Marvel comic book scene in November 1980 via writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr. Her civilian name is Cassandra Webb, and she’s an older woman connected to a spiderweb-like life support system. She has myasthenia gravis and possesses the abilities of clairvoyance and precognition.

Madame Web doesn’t battle any baddies because of her health issues and age. Of course, Dakota Johnson is young. While we don’t know anything about the plot, it appears this film will serve as an origin story for the character.

According to Deadline‘s insiders, she could become Sony’s version of Doctor Strange due to Madame Web’s psychic powers.

Most TV fans know Adam Scott for his role as the nerdy Ben Wyatt on NBC’s cult classic Parks and Recreation, but the actor’s star turn in Severance has critics raving. Scott also wrapped production on a Party Down revival series and will star in the upcoming comedy Cocksman & Cuckold

So far, this cast is shaping up to be a winner in my book, and Adam Scott’s addition solidifies that. Here’s hoping Sony and Marvel create something truly marvel-ous (Get it?).
