It’s Always Sunny in Abbott Elementary

The Paddy’s Pub gang is heading to Abbott Elementary … the school and the show. Why they’re allowed near a school, we might never know, but we’ll soon learn what landed them there. Thankfully, ABC has unleashed a brief teaser trailer for the highly anticipated Abbott Elementary It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover event.

In it, we see Mac (Rob McElhenney), Charlie (Charlie Day), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Dee (Kaitlin Olson) and Frank (Danny DeVito) arrive at the school, where Janine (Quinta Brunson), Gregory (Tyler James Williams), Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph), Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) and Jacob (Chris Perfetti) greet them.

Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) and Frank butt heads regarding who’s the trashiest (with poor Gregory in the middle of it all). Meanwhile, Mac offers his services to Ava (Janelle James), and what that entails remains to be seen. Elsewhere, it appears Dee will try to get her flirt on with Gregory. As for Dennis, he might be responsible for wreaking havoc in the school gymnasium. Charlie also spends time with Barbara and her kindergarten class. Maybe she’ll teach him to read (especially doors marked “private”).

Volunteers

The logline for Season 4 Episode 9, “Volunteers,” is simple: “Ava announces the school district is sending a group of volunteers to help out at Abbott; however, when they arrive, things don’t go as planned.” In It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s upcoming 17th season, we’ll see the gang’s perspective on this episodic narrative with characters from Abbott Elementary appearing.

As a longtime fan of both shows, this crossover event tickles me to no end. While the comedy styles differ, I feel they’ll gel well together. I’m excited to watch these characters interact and the dynamics that will unfold.

The Abbott Elementary It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode premieres on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 8:30 pm EST on ABC, with next-day streaming on Hulu. Before you go, check out the teaser trailer below.
