Jacob (Chris Perfetti) announces it’s time for their yearly field trip on Abbott Elementary Season 3 Episode 13, “Smith Playground.” In true Jacob nature, he makes worksheets to make the trip educational, but everyone — including Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) — says that isn’t necessary. He managed to pull off a field trip with no money, so he should just relax and enjoy.
Meanwhile, Jacob tries to get both Gregory (Tyler James Williams) and Janine (Quinta Brunson) to admit their feelings for each other. Gregory says he will tell her when the time is right. But, Jacob mentions to Janine that he knows the other teacher has feelings for her and encourages her to talk to him.

Trouble in the Park
As soon as they arrive at the playground, a girl tells Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) that a kid from another school pushed her to the ground. Melissa approaches the other teacher who claims the Abbott girl did the pushing. Trying to keep things civil, Melissa agrees both kids should apologize.
Meanwhile, Gregory and Janine talk about the kids when Janine asks him to take a photo of her with her kids in the background since she has no pictures of the school year. As Gregory is taking the picture, she receives a text from Manny asking her to have dinner.

So, Melissa and Barbara start doing the same. Things turn ugly when the other school teachers mention how terrible it is that they work at Abbott Elementary.
Moments later, a kid from the other school kicks a ball that lands at Melissa’s feet. One of the teachers asks her to send it back to them, careful not to hurt herself. Of course, Melissa kicks it as hard as she can, landing it further away from those teachers.
