A new sci-fi series is set to take Apple TV+ by storm. Created by Melody Fox, Circuit Breakers is an exciting anthology series that tackles kid-relatable issues through a science fiction lens. It hones in on a group of students in the near future whose curiosity leads to chaos after experiencing cryptic events.
Aaliyah Cinello plays Charlotte, a.k.a. Charley, a bright and sensitive 12-year-old who supports her best friend Olivia (Georgia Acken). When Olivia expresses concern regarding her mother’s strange behavior after encountering a mysterious woman, Charley keeps an even keel despite her curiosity. However, Charley is still anxious to investigate the situation with her friend.
Recently, I had the privilege of chatting with Aaliyah about her role in Circuit Breakers, what viewers can expect, if she shares any similarities with Charley and more.

This interview is condensed for length and clarity.
Melody McCune: We at Geek Girl Authority love a good origin story. How did you get into acting?
Aaliyah Cinello: I got into acting when I was four months old. My mom, who also owns a business, is an actor, and she put me into modeling when I was young. But my passion for acting started when I was four years old, and I got my first commercial.
MM: Let’s talk about Circuit Breakers. Can you tell me what it’s about and how you got involved with the project?
AC: Circuit Breakers is a sci-fi horror anthology series that revolves around technology and these young characters who move forward a more mature plot. When I first got the audition, I was super excited because I’ve always wanted to be part of a sci-fi show, so it felt like the role was made for me.
MM: How does your character Charley fit into the story?
AC: Charley is Olivia’s best friend, who is the main character. Charley is super supportive of her when she’s confused about her life and family. She’s that rock for Olivia.
MM: Do you share any similarities with your character?
AC: Yes, Charley’s really sensible and smart, and I also feel like I am sensible and smart. She’s loyal, and I feel I’m loyal, especially to the people I love.

MM: What can audiences expect when they watch this show?
AC: They can expect to be a little scared and a lot intrigued. Whenever I was watching any scene, it would pull me toward the screen, and I wanted to watch more.
MM: Describe Circuit Breakers using three words.
AC: Circuit Breakers is scary, funny and witty.
MM: What else is on the horizon for you, career-wise?
AC: I’m currently working on two projects that might be coming out in a year or two.
MM: Have you watched anything interesting lately?
AC: Yes, I’ve been watching The Haunting of Bly Manor. I usually don’t like horror because I get scared, but something made me want to watch it.
MM: Name your top five favorite films and/or TV shows.
AC: Number five would be The Man From Toronto. I love that movie. Number four would be Dahmer. Number three, Full House. I grew up watching that show all the time. The second one would be Sister, Sister. I watched that with my little sister a year ago. It was great. Number one would be Anna. I absolutely adore that movie.
