Wireless Vulcan Earbuds, ThinkGeek

Wireless Vulcan Earbuds, ThinkGeek

Wireless earbuds have become a necessity with so many phone manufacturers ditching the standard headphone jack in favor of wireless transmittance. Less wires and less plugs means a cleaner and sleeker look. But that may also mean new headphones or earbuds; why stick to the generic pair that came with the phone when you can upgrade to something that shows your pride in your fandom? ThinkGeek has a pair of Vulcan Ear earbuds that not only sit inside the ear, but also loop over top of the ear! Form and function! The earbuds only come in one flesh color, designed to match the original Spock’s skin tone, and retail for $44.99.

Books

Redshirts by John Scalzi

Redshirts by John Scalzi

Star Trek fan John Scalzi wrote a little novel in 2013 called Redshirts. While this isn’t an official Star Trek tale, it takes a little poke at the Red Shirt Curse! New and used copies are available with a new hardcover listed at $28.99 and a new paperback listed for $13.07.

From the cover:
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. It’s a prestige posting, with the chance to serve on “Away Missions” alongside the starship’s famous senior officers.

Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to realize that 1) every Away Mission involves a lethal confrontation with alien forces, 2) the ship’s senior officers always survive these confrontations, and 3) sadly, at least one low-ranking crew member is invariably killed. Unsurprisingly, the savvier crew members below decks avoid Away Missions at all costs.

Then Andrew stumbles on information that transforms his and his colleagues’ understanding of what the starship Intrepid really is…and offers them a crazy, high-risk chance to save their own lives.

Redshirts by John Scalzi is the winner of the 2013 Hugo Award for Best Novel.
