The anticipated prequel to the 2018 horror film A Quiet Place has its first official trailer, revealing the catastrophic cause of why the world went quiet. Titled A Quiet Place: Day One, the trailer shows the initial events that precipitated an alien invasion of Earth. Beginning in New York City — the hub of sound and chaos in the United States — the attack comes with fury.
For the third film in the franchise and its first spin-off, A Quiet Place: Day One is set to finally provide context for how the creatures that hunt by sound first arrived on Earth, and how anybody survived them. Created by Paramount Pictures, A Quiet Place: Day One is set for release in theaters on June 28.

Cast and Crew

For the first time, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt will not serve as the franchise’s main characters. Instead, the spin-off will star Lupita Nyong’o, known for her roles in Black Panther, Us and 12 Years a Slave. Well-versed in horror, Nyong’o was the first Kenyan and Mexican actress to win an Academy Award. Alex Wolff (The Naked Brothers Band) and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) will also be in the film.
The 2018 A Quiet Place received critical acclaim when it was initially released. It was nominated for an Oscar for Best Sound Editing in 2019 and won a Saturn Award for Best Horror Film that year. Krasinski once again created the story, as he has in the franchise’s previous iterations. He is also joined by day-one writer and director Michael Sarnoski.
Djimon Hounsou, who was in A Quiet Place: Part II, joins the cast for the prequel, possibly giving some context as to how he created a (temporary) haven from the aliens.

How it All Began
According to EW, Sam (Nyong’o) is on a day trip to New York City when the city is attacked. Immediately, chaos ensues, as explosions bring down skyscrapers and the most populated city in the United States enters a frenzy. She becomes paired with a man named Eric (Quinn), and together they work to survive in the city.
Unlike in the previous stories, the film will not follow a unit like the Abbott family. Instead, it’s a collection of strangers, fighting to survive.
“We have these disparate individuals who collide into each other’s lives, and it is at a very pivotal time for the world. How do they negotiate survival together? What we get is really interesting — and even surprising — chemistry in the characters that meet each other along the way,” Nyong’o told EW.
The trailer shows the aliens in large numbers when they first make their assault on the Earth. Unlike the previous movies, they have no idea of what is happening and must adapt in moments. The trailer begins in absolute chaos and ends as the other films begin — completely quiet. More information about the film can be found on its official website. Currently, A Quiet Place: Part III is still in the works and is set for release in 2025.
