Get your burn books ready because Mean Girls is returning to the big screen with a twist. Not only are we getting a reboot, but a musical one at that!
Tina Fey’s popular Broadway musical, inspired by her hit 2004 movie, follows Cady Heron. Cady moves from Africa to Illinois, where she attends public school for the first time, tries to make friends and falls into the clutches of North Shore High’s most popular clique, The Plastics.
The forthcoming film was confirmed late last week, along with the news this remake could be coming at us courtesy of Paramount Pictures. It will feature music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Neil Benjamin, Lorne Michaels will act as a co-producer with Fey, who will also write the script.
So, just to recap, it’s an adaption of the adaption. I know it’s a little confusing. It sure did confuse Karen.

There is nothing on casting or a production timeline for the Paramount Pictures project yet. However, if you want a sneak peak of what to expect, Mean Girls is currently playing in New York’s August Wilson Theater and the national tour launched last September (see dates here!), plus a London West End production is also in the works for spring 2021.
