Fall is officially here, and a slew of spooky webcomics are on the way. In a recent announcement from Manta Comics, an adaptation of the Korean action-thriller film A Hard Day is coming to the platform. The original movie was released in 2014 by director Kim Seong-hun.
Manta Comics has made a few adjustments in the adaptation, most notably making the protagonist Ko Gunsoo a female detective. The story starts with her accidentally hitting a homeless person with her car shortly after her mother’s death. Trying to hide from a manslaughter charge, she hides the body in her mother’s casket. But a mysterious stranger soon arrives, claiming to know about what she has done. This leads Gunsoo down a dark path as she is embroiled in a shady police corruption scandal.

Manta Comics is known for its romance webcomics, including Under the Oak Tree and The Accidental Heiress. With A Hard Day, it is expanding its borders across multiple genres by expanding both thriller and action categories. Moonseok Jeong, Head of Content for Manta Comics, had this to share about the series. “We are excited for our fans to experience the story and the amazing artwork.” And from what we have been able to see, we are beyond excited as well.
This isn’t the first series to make the jump from screen to webcomic on Manta Comics. In August, the platform announced the addition of Svaha: The Sixth Finger, their adaptation of the 2019 South Korean film by Jae-hyun Jang. So far, the series has been pretty terrific and gives us high hopes for A Hard Day. It also begs the question, what other films/TV series could be adapted into webcomics?
