If Christmas is your favorite primarily because it’s the one day of the year you’re guaranteed a new episode of Doctor Who, you should just lean in to that. It’s time to deck the halls with Daleks and Cyber Men, and here’s my list of must-haves for your perfect Doctor Who-themed Christmas Tree:
Tardis Tree-Topper from ThinkGeek.com. (above, obvi) They say: “The lightweight plastic replica fits perfectly on top of most trees without weighing them down. And like all the best holiday decorations, it lights up! Just flip the switch on the bottom, and an LED light will shine through the phone box windows. Please note: This TARDIS does not guarantee that Nick Frost will show up as Santa. Unless things get a bit dreamy weamy...”
Baby Blue Pre-Lit Artificial Christmas Tree from Treetopia.com. OK, this one isn’t cheap, but it’ll set you up for YEARS of holiday fandom. They say: “This beautiful blue Christmas tree is suitable for any decorating theme…” And I agree.
Dalek String Lights from the BBC Shop. Looks like you only get 10 per box, so you’ll probably need more than one box to do the whole tree. They say: “Never fear: our Dalek Christmas light set will not Exterminate! cheer this holiday season!”
Cyberman Ornaments from Jaf Gifts. There are a lot of Cyberman ornaments out there, but this set gives you one head and one full Cyberman. Buy in bulk if this is your dominant theme!
Weeping Angel Tree Topper from Etsy. If you want to go another way with the tree topper, “The Naughty Rabbit” on Etsy has an AMAZING Weeping Angel tree topper worth checking out. She says: “These angels in their weeping form look like a pretty sculpture to non-nerds who are not aware of their sordid history.”
TARDIS string lights from ThinkGeek.com. Whether you’re going for the TARDIS tree-topper or not, these TARDIS lights are rad. They say: “PARTY LIKE A TIME LORD.” Like the Daleks, you only get 10 in the box, so plan ahead if you want enough for the whole tree.
ALL the Doctors as ornaments from Etsy. There are a lot of options if you have a particular Doctor you want to feature on your tree, but “TigerAngelTreasures” on Etsy had my best find for featuring ALL of them. They say: “The cutest little Whovian ornaments of the Doctors! I have one of each of the twelve doctors (no War Doctor, regrettably) and you get the whole set.”
A DIY Christmas Tree Skirt, with an assist from Spoonflower. Although it is possible to find a pre-made Christmas Tree Skirt, this is an instance where DIY will be even better thanks to Spoonflower. You can search “nebula” or “space” for some amazing choices, but my pick is this “Ugly Sweater Who” fabric by “geeknessoverload“.
There are obviously a million ways to address a Doctor Who-themed Christmas tree, since the show has been around for more than 50 years. If you have additional ideas or suggestions– or if you do one and want to show off a photo, please share!
