The world of video games has long been the realm of guys and associated with the masculine parts of society. First-person shooters, war games, and male-centric artistic design all combined to make this community a haven for, shall we say, “dudes”.

Luckily for the world, there are now a lot of female gamers. Women have broken through the ranks of this male-dominated passion and made some serious noise in the video gaming sphere. Platforms like YouTube and Twitch are largely due the credit here.

These streaming platforms allow previously unknown talent to gain some recognition, make some money, and gain influence in a domain that was previously impossible to disrupt. Women now account for 41% of the video game industry and have gained a massive following all their own.

Imane Anys (aka Pokimane)

This 23-year-old has taken the video gaming world by storm with her tactical skill and deft maneuvering in games like Fortnite and League of Legends. Now boasting 3.4 million subscribers on Twitch, she is regularly giving the guys at the top a run for their money.

With two other streaming channels on YouTube and a 2018 nomination for Content Creator of the Year, Pokimane is definitely a woman worth checking out.

Kristen (aka KittyPlays)

A brilliant and multi-faceted Twitch talent, KittyPlaysGames now has a following of over 1 million loyal supporters for her complete domination of games like Overwatch and PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG).

Subscribers come to her for the video game talent but stay for her original vlog content on topics like travel, cooking, and even racing cars. Never a dull moment on this stream.

Posting primarily Let’s Play videos on YouTube, the gamer genius known as SSSniperWolf wows her audience of 3.1 million subscribers with her raw skill and captivating commentary in games like Call of Duty: Black Ops, Far Cry Primal, Star Wars Battlefront, Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, and Assassin’s Creed.

This British YouTube woman originally started streaming her skills with Call of Duty but really made a name for herself with episodic chapters of “Shadowcraft” her own single-player survivor mod (modification) of Minecraft.

With her clever commentary and friendly demeanor, LDShadowLady has amassed a respectable following of 2.2 million viewers, showcasing her knack for strategy in games like Gary’s Mod, Portal, and Sims 4, as well as horror games like Outlast, Slender, and Jeff the Killer.

One of the most popular female gamers on YouTube (full stop) has assembled a staggering 4.7 million subscribers and over 1.8 million views with her mad skills and engaging commentary playing games like Minecraft, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Grand Theft Auto, and The Sims.

Fun, witty, and savvy-to-the-max, this gamer girl even made the crossover into non-gaming content, wowing viewers with her binge-worthy videos on DIY projects, cosplay, cooking tutorials, and animations besides.

Kathleen Belsten (aka Loserfruit)

One of Australia’s top gamers, Loserfruit is known for her hilariously engaging personality and extreme variety of content. She boasts over 1.1 million Twitch subscribers streaming her epic moves in Overwatch and Witcher 3. Her loyal fans keep coming back for not only her gaming prowess but her diverse library of vlog content too.

And this lady gets meta. I mean, really meta. Sometimes she broadcasts creative content like editing streams in which she edits while commentating. Talk about multi-tasking…

Katherine “Kat” Gunn (aka KatGunn)

KatGunn has been in the industry for over a decade and has wowed the world with her outrageous resume of gaming accolades during that time. As a competitive gamer, she specialized in first-person shooters and fighter games and now mostly streams Fortnite, Call of Duty, Zelda, Street Fighter V, For Honor, and Resident Evil 7.

In addition to her many other championship titles, KatGunn is also the 2016 Guinness World Record holder for the highest-earning female gamer. You go girl.

Sarah (aka Slotlady)

This go-getter breaks the mold as a gambling gamer lady with a hefty following on YouTube and a ton of Patreon supporters. Slotlady games online and in the casino, trying her luck at the slots and the occasional table game session.

Her fans get to ride the rollercoaster of highs and lows with her, all while learning techniques and strategies that have made her a name to remember in the female gaming world at large.

Watch Out, World.

Slotlady is walking talking evidence that it’s likely that professional casino game players will emerge and become household names. This is likely as the popularity of online casino games explodes.

Gone are the days of video games as a solitary or male-dominated activity. Technology has firmly placed this past time into a highly lucrative and entertaining way for like-minded individuals to connect, exchange tips, and share stories – whether it’s through YouTube gaming, Twitch, or other platforms.

And with the entrance of women into the video game stratosphere, these inspiring ladies just might change the world. We’d love to hear about some of your favorites too!
