Winter is finally thawing and giving up its frost-covered ground to spring. It’ll still be a while before the world is full of spring flowers and butterflies but if you are itching to get the season started, we have the perfect list of games for you! These tabletop games are all beautifully illustrated and bring the feeling the spring indoors while we all wait for the for waves of pollen to pass.
As always, these games can be found at major retailers, but we ask that you give your local game store a chance first! They offer games at the same price as the box stores but will appreciate your business so much more.
The Tea Dragon Society Card Game

I’m crazy for this game. Based on a set of graphic novels with the same name, The Tea Dragon Society Card Game carries over all of the soft illustrations and sweetness from the books. Similar to the books, each player is in charge of their own tea dragon, a small dragon creature that produces tea leaves through the connection and closeness to their companion/caregiver. The cards the player collects earn them points through the seasons and the player with the most points after winter wins!
Game Mechanics:
- 2-4 Players
- Card drafting/deck building game
- Playtime 30-60 mins
The Tea Dragon Society Card Game is from developer Renegade Game Studio and can be found here!
Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is a competitive strategy game where players play as a tree growing in the forest. Like in real life this game is survival of the fittest as your tree grows while competing for resources. Follow the sun as it rotates around the board, cast your opponents in a shadow to slow their growth and plant wisely. This game is easy to pick up but takes some difficulty to master.
Game Mechanics:
- 2-4 Players
- Strategy/board control game
- Playtime 30-60 mins
Photosynthesis is from developer Blue Orange game and can be found here!
Lotus

Lotus is a gorgeous game that blooms into a work of art that is unique to every round that you play. Players draw cards to construct their lotus garden and can enlist the help of beneficial insects to boost the beauty of their garden. It’s oddly relaxing to play for a competitive game and is a great choice for less experienced gamers.
Game Mechanics:
- 2-4 Players
- Strategy/ area influence game
- Playtime 30 mins

Sakura

Few things are as synonymous with spring as cherry blossoms. Sakura is a cherry blossom based tactical game. The Emperor is out on his daily walk and it is the player’s job to try to catch his attention. This is a game of pushing your luck and if you try to show off too much your whole strategy might crumble. Lotus isn’t ideal for younger players but is still accessible for most players.
Game Mechanics:
- 2-6 Players
- Tactical token placing game
- Playtime 20-40 mins
Sakura is from developer Osprey Games and can be found here!

Parks

Camping is one of those things that is described as a summer activity but is clearly a spring thing. Parks is a game about exploring and discovering the United States National Parks with a big camping/hiking vibe. We’ve said this a lot on this list but the art for this game is really very stunning, depicting different National Parks in various seasons. The gameplay is card/token-based and leisurely. It’s a favorite to many for the laid-back pacing and solo game mode.
Game Mechanics:
- 1-5 Players
- Tile drafting game
- Playtime 30-70 mins
Parks is from developer Keymaster Games and can be found here!
Succulent

How good is your green thumb? Players will find out if their inner horticulturist is a master or an amateur in Succulent! It is a tile placing game in which players will prune and primp their succulent garden to perfection. Collect water crystals, complete projects and earn points to prove who is the top gardener.

- Playtime 45-60 mins
Succulent is from developer Renegade Game Studio and can be found here!
Wingspan

With spring comes new life and Wingspan perfectly captures that feeling. In this competitive, card game each player is trying to attract various birds to their wildlife preserve. This game has 170 meticulously illustrated bird cards that give the game a beautiful, varied look. The winner is the one with the most points after four rounds of gameplay, scoring combos is the key. This is another game that features a solo play option.
