Here are 10 of the best movies about Olympic Gods.
Clash of the Titans
There are two Clash of the Titans films. The original and superior cult classic from 1981 and the remake from 2010. This film follows the saga of Perseus, son of Zeus played by Harry Hamlin.
The 1981 film brings the nostalgia with its practical effects and stop-motion animation. The movie combines classic adventure and mythology with a straightforward hero’s journey giving it a very epic feel.
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief
2010’s Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief was adapted from Rick Riordan’s incredibly popular book series and resonated with young audiences. The film modernizes Greek mythology and follows a young demigod, Percy who discovers he’s the son of Poseidon and has to navigate both his real-world teenage life and the mythological world. Percy is also ADHD and dyslexic which makes him very relatable.
Troy
The Olympic gods don’t physically appear in Troy but their influence is certainly felt throughout. Based on Homer’s Iliad, the film shows how the gods’ meddling affects humans and reimagines the war between the Greeks and the Trojans.
The film follows complex characters like Achilles (Brad Pitt), Hector (Eric Bana) and Agamemnon showing their human and heroic sides. Troy has big-budget battles and intense hand-to-hand combat scenes. It’s epic storytelling meets character-driven drama.

Immortals
Immortals from 2011 stars Henry Cavill and follows Theseus, a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion, who is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity.
Focusing on the battle between gods and Titans, the film is beautiful to watch and has incredible action scenes. And, of course, Henry Cavill.
Hercules
If you’re a fan of the Olympic gods, which you probably are if you are reading this, then you must watch this film. In this animated movie, Hercules, son of Zeus and Hera is stripped of his immortality as an infant and must become a true hero in order to reclaim it. It’s adorable, it’s approachable, it’s entertaining.
Jason and the Argonauts
Talk about an old film, this one was released in 1963. So, beware, it may seem dated but it is an absolute must-watch. The movie is about the legendary Greek hero Jason. It follows him leading a team of intrepid adventurers in a perilous quest for the legendary Golden Fleece all while the gods manipulate from Mount Olympus
It’s a stop-motion film. In 1963 the animation was considered groundbreaking (Sidenote: the stop motion animation was done by the same artist from Clash of the Titans, Ray Harryhausen) and it also has an incredible musical score.
Each of the films in our list illustrates different elements of the Olympic gods – action, drama, unique personalities and just good storytelling. Which one will you watch first?
