So it has been about a month since The Witcher last graced us with its presence, and it has really caused a whirlwind. The first season left a lot of questions behind for fans– outside of the whole timeline whiplash. We have ages before the second season of The Witcher is ready for release, so we have time to ponder these five questions we absolutely need answers to. Now, we know that many of these questions can be answered by reading the novels from Andrzej Sapkowski, but this is more for those who want to learn from the show. Be mindful: if you haven’t finished season one, there will be spoilers going forward. You have been warned.

Where is Jaskier?

Everyone’s favorite bard and friend of Geralt (Henry Cavill), Jaskier (Joey Batey) is nowhere to be found in the last two episodes of season one. The last we saw him was during episode six, “Rare Species.” After traveling with the group set to find the dragon’s nest, they found themselves actually saving the egg of an unborn dragon. (Well, Geralt and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) did. Jaskier overslept and missed out on the action.) However, it was this episode in which Yennefer learned of Geralt’s wish and things got awkward between the two. Her leaving and not wanting anything to do with him put him in quite a foul mood, only for Jaskier to walk in and take all the abuse.

We don’t see the charismatic bard after that, and frankly I am worried. Though I would say that we are most likely going to see him in the second season, but where? When? How long before our two favorite buddies can come to terms and venture together again?

Where Does Yennefer Go?

We know that Yennefer is a major character in The Witcher storyline and will be back for season two. However, the real questions are: where did she go, and how will she get back? The last we saw her, she set the fields ablaze after letting loose her chaos during episode eight, “Much More.” The scene is cinematically beautiful. But the real questions come afterwards, when Tissaia (MyAnna Buring) calls out to her but she is nowhere to be found. Don’t forget – Yennefer is a powerful mage and has been shown to have the ability to do almost anything.

Now, and take a deep breath, maybe she isn’t alive. It is hard to think about, but I have learned that anything is possible these days. (Thanks Game of Thrones) Chances are, though, she is alive, and maybe the first few episodes of season two of The Witcher will be Ciri (Freya Allan) and Geralt trying to find her.

What Is Up With Vilgefortz of Roggeveen?

In the final episode of season one, the epic Battle of Sodden Hill took place, and Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu) was one of the mages’ heaviest hitters. So it was no surprise that once Cahir (Eamon Farren), the driving force behind the hunt for Ciri, was alone that he would be the one sent in. Not to mention, this had been his plan all along, He pulled Yennefer back into the fold and argued that Cintra needed their defenses. Of course he lost, because that would be too easy, right?

A little later in the episode, as Yennefer was crying out for help, we found out that Vilgefortz is still alive. Now, here is where things got weird. He started making his way through the forest before coming across a fellow mage. And then killed him. Uhh. What? Is there something we missed? It did really seem to be out of rage, but what does that mean for the future?

Who Is The White Flame, and Why Does Nilfgaard Want Ciri?

From episode one, “The End’s Beginning,” we have been hearing about how Nilfgaard wants Ciri and this “White Flame.” They demolished Cintra in order to get her, but failed and spent the entire season following her. Why? We almost had an answer during episode six, “Rare Species,” when Cahir was duped by the Doppelgänger, but that story was cut short. So we know she has some pretty special powers, but no one knew about that until she got upset by being forced to leave her grandmother.

Does someone else out there on the Continent know about her might-be power? If so, what do they plan on doing with it? Also, all of this is because of the White Flame, who has yet to be identified but has driven an entire country to war.

What Will Happen Now That Geralt and Ciri Have Found Each Other?

It was prophesied by Renfri (Emma Appleton) in the very first episode; it was the law of surprise promised to Geralt during episode four, “Banquets, Bastards, and Burials.” Finally, at the very end of the season finale, Geralt found Ciri. Now what? I doubt the war is over, as Niflgaard really  wants Ciri, so I am sure we will get some pretty epic battles. I imagine they will also be setting out to try and find Yennefer, as Ciri clearly knows about her and has some questions.

What I am really looking forward to is what kind of dad figure Geralt is going to become to her. She doesn’t seem like the kid to sit home and relax while Geralt is out fighting battles. But really, that is the big question and most definetly going to be answered in season two of The Witcher.

Did you have a question we didn’t include? Share it with us! I have plenty more where this came from, but I will save those for another day. If you have gotten through this entire list and haven’t watched a single episode of The Witcher (first why?) you can watch it now over on Netflix.
