While we still haven’t received an official announcement from Netflix on season two of Shadow and Bone, I have faith that we will be diving back into the Grishaverse soon. This is why I am here to bring you another list of questions I need to be answered when season two finally airs! The final episode may have tied up quite a few storylines, but it also opened up so many new doors I can’t wait for us to travel down.
Now I know that the series is based on Leigh Bargudo‘s novels. But, quite a bit was changed in season one and it is likely we will see more changes in the future. Plus, all of the content for The Crows is brand new! So here are five questions we need to be answered when season two releases!
DISCLAIMER: Clearly, we are heading into spoiler territory for both season one and a few of the novels. If you haven’t gotten the chance to watch the entire season – get to it! You can find it on Netflix here!

What are Alina and Mal’s plans?
In the final episode of Shadow and Bones, “No Mourners,” Alina (Jessie Mei Li) and Mal (Archie Renaux) say goodbye to the Shadow Fold and everything they know and board a ship to Ketterdam. After everything Alina has been through, I don’t blame her for wanting to get away for a bit. But she always has big plans that include returning and tearing down General Kirigan’s (Ben Barnes) worst creation – The Shadow Fold. But what are they going to do? We know that Morozova created more than just the Stag, so it could be possible that they will need to seek out the rest of these magical creatures to grow stronger.
Or will they seek out additional help? It is possible Alina may feel that just the two of them aren’t enough to do tear it down and will find others like them to join her cause. She is Sankta Alina, but at the same time, she is right when she believes that others may blame her for what happened to Novo Kribirsk. I would love to see this sort of secret organization that vows to support her. Maybe Inej (Amita Suman) could be a part of it. I really want to know what Alina will do once she learns that Kirigan is still alive.

What is General Kirigan’s Next Move?
Speaking of General Kirigan, what is he up to? In the final moments of the season finale, we watch as he crawls out of the Shadow Fold and brings his Volkra shadow beings with him. The look on his face is downright terrifying. We know that Kirigan’s strongest motivation behind his actions was to protect the Grisha. In “The Unsea,” we get a bit of his backstory and saw how the Shadow Fold came to be. But it is pretty clear that over the years, he has gone from just wanting to save the Grisha to wanting to exact revenge on everyone against them.
So what’s next for The Darkling? I imagine he will head back to The Little Palace first to regroup with the Grisha, who are still loyal to him. And then I imagine he will be using his power to exact revenge on everyone who stood in his way. I imagine Alina, Mal and The Crows are high on his list right now. I am also curious what he is going to do to his mother, Bahgra (Zoë Wanamaker), who is clearly working against him. Will he go after the rest of Morozova’s magical creatures, or does he have something else up his sleeve?
What will The Crows do next?
When season one of Shadow and Bone began, Kaz (Freddy Carter) decided to take on a job worth one million Kruge. All he needed to do was cross the Fold, acquire something and bring it back. But things clearly didn’t go as planned and they are heading back without the Sun Summoner. Now Inej has already made it clear that she has no intention of going back to Heleen (Deirdre Mullins) and the Menagerie. But with Alina’s bribe to Kaz, it seems like they won’t have to worry much about money. But then again, Inej has promised Alina to always be by her side.
On the other hand, Jesper (Kit Young) seems to be pretty set on staying with the crew. He gives me the impression that he is open to anything as long as he can show off his charm and skills. I am interested in learning more about what Ivan (Simon Sears) saw in him. There is a short moment in “The Heart is an Arrow” when Ivan asks Jesper what he is, but Jesper knocks him out and warns him he should have stopped while he was ahead. Now in the books, Jesper is a Durst Grisha and I am so hopeful that they will keep with that story!

What will happen to Nina and Matthias?
Breaking Matthias (Calahan Skogman) out of Hellgate is a major plot in Six of Crows. So it is pretty much known that we are going to see that story play out. In the season finale, Nina (Danielle Galligan) pretends that Matthias is a slaver instead of handing him over to the Grisha. Even though she meant well, the trust she built with Matthias was utterly ruined. Now I doubt Nina is ready to walk away and we see her overhear Kaz and the crew talking about needing a Heartrender. This might just be what Nina needs and they just might be the right people to help her get Matthias out of Hellgate.
This could lead to another heist for The Crows. No one said that their story needs to continue to follow Alina’s and I think it would be great to see the second season focus more on the Crows story. I really believe that we will continue to see both sides of the Grishaverse interacting with each other but in a way that still allows both stories not to overshadow the other. Season one did this beautifully and I can’t wait to see how it continues.
Who will the Grisha side with?
As season one of Shadow and Bone comes to a close, we had one last look at a few of the Grisha close to Kirigan. Jesper killed Ivan, Nina is on the verge of teaming up with The Crows and Zoya (Sujaya Dasgupta) made it out of the Fold alive only to head back to Novo Kribirsk to see who was left alive. But what about Genya (Daisy Head), David (Luke Pasqualino), Fedyor (Julian Kostov) and the rest of the Grisha? Only Zoya really knows what happened within the Fold and I honestly believe that Kirigan could convince the world that Alina is their enemy.
I can’t imagine that Zoya is on his side anymore, seeing as he killed her family. The family that she risked traveling through the Fold to see. But Genya seems to be set on staying by his side. She even risked poisoning the King to put The Apparat (Kevin Eldon) into power. Will Alina be able to convince her to fight against him? I am also curious about how Fedyor will react once he returns from his mission. There is a small moment during “Show Me Who You Are” where he is feeding Ivan a treat and it’s one of the sweetest moments but it makes me wonder what kind of relationship they had and how he will react when he learns of his death.
Bonus Question – Where is Milo?
This one is pretty self-explanatory, but I need to know where everyone’s favorite emotional support goat is hiding out at. Last we saw him, he was helping Mal make a quick escape from confinement. I hope we get the chance to see a Jesper Milo reunion next season!
