There are so very many amazing TV shows coming to us, or coming back in April this year that I thought I’d put together a list of those that I’m most anticipating. Set your DVR’s and catch up on previous seasons because these shows are a MUST-WATCH!
Premieres in chronological order…
Sunday, April 2. 8pm on PBS
CALL THE MIDWIFE
This is a hit show from the BBC that for some reason has gone under the radar in the states. Historical drama is my jam, and this is right up my alley. It’s a heartwarming, compelling, funny chronicle of a group of midwives in East London in the late 50’s and early 60’s. This is their 6th season premiere, so you have 5 seasons to catch up on in the next couple of weeks. Binge!
Wednesday, April 5. 10pm on FXX
Going into season 8, Archer is a fun, funny, bizarre, crass, off-color, adventurous, character driven covert romp. Another binge-worthy series, and especially easy if you don’t have all of the time. 22 minute episodes.
Monday, April 10. 10pm on AMC
BETTER CALL SAUL
All of the drama, story-telling and wit of Breaking Bad, set in the same world with some familiar characters. Granted, Breaking Bad is arguably the best TV ever made, and nobody’s going to do that again, but I can’t think of a spin-off more successful than thisin terms of style and quality of show. I totally love it. This is their 3rd season. Watch the first two and get ready.
Monday, April 14 on Netflix
MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000
Reboot! The new version of the cult classic stars Jonah Ray, Patton Oswalt, and Felicia Day. There are 10 previous seasons.
Sunday, April 16. 9pm on HBO
If you like a puzzle and you haven’t watched this show, you’ve been missing out. Mystery, fantasy, good, evil, love, loss and all of the drama are all over this show. This will be the third and final season. You definitely need to watch the first two seasons to know what’s going on, and even then… maybe not. But that’s the fun of it! Great writing, great acting and let’s hope… a great big finish!
10pm on HBO
Julia Louis Dreyfus is a force of funny in Veep, and she’s surrounded by equally talented, equally hilarious cast members. It is densely packed with bits, jokes, wit and impeccable timing.
Wednesday, April 19. 10pm on FX
Season 3 looks very exciting. Season 2 was amazing. Amazing! Ewan McGregor and Carrie Coon star in the third season. McGregor plays twins, one of which is the ‘parking lot king of Minnesota’. Oh ya, you betcha.
Friday, April 21 on Netflix
BILL NYE SAVES THE WORLD
It’s a return to the fun of science with Bill Nye the science guy. He’s back and he’s got experiments and celebrities.
Wednesday, April 26 on Hulu
THE HANDMAID’S TALE
Based on the novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is an extremely dystopian alternate reality starring Elisabeth Moss. The series looks beautiful and terrifying and haunting and great. I can’t wait for this one.
Sunday, April 30. 9pm on Starz
This is the much anticipated television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel of the same name. It’s a mystery. It’s a fantasy. It’s going to be good. I can feel it.
Actor, Improviser, Comic.
I like to like things and talk about them.
I like to pretend.
I like to make things.
I like to write things down.
