The new Netflix original movie from director Bong Joon Ho (Snowpiercer), Okja, has been a source of intrigue for me for weeks. Well, Netflix just upped their game. They released the official full-length trailer Thursday, and it is addictive. I’ve watched it six times.
There is so much right with this movie on the surface. Tilda Swinton plays a corporate gene-splicing ‘conservationist’ meat producer who want to save the world with giant meat. There’s a little girl that loves her giant super pig. There’s a giant super pig. And, Jake Gyllenhaal plays some kind of eccentric modern day circus barker. Sounds absurd doesn’t it? It is. Beautifully absurd.
But, what makes it extra compelling is the action, the aesthetic beauty, the danger and the heart strings that this trailer pulls on so hard. This movie looks like some weird amalgam of The Jungle Book and The Island. I am totally hooked and completely intrigued.
Okja will be available on Netflix June 28.
Actor, Improviser, Comic.
I like to like things and talk about them.
I like to pretend.
I like to make things.
I like to write things down.
