Well this is great news. Star Trek actor and also, Star Trek uber-fan, Simon Pegg has been tapped to co-write Star Trek 3 along with Doug Jung. Looks like there is finally a team in place for the next Star Trek Project. Pegg and Jung join Justin Lin who will be directing. Lin replaced Roberto Orci as director after Orci bowed out of the project last month.
Star Trek fans know Simon Pegg as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott from the last two franchise films. Simon Pegg fans know him from the hilarious films Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. Aside from starring in those films, he co-wrote them with Edgar Wright. The man definitely has the writing chops.
Simon Pegg also has the trekkie chops. In fact, in his hilarious British sit-com called Spaced (if you haven’t seen Spaced, go find it. Find it NOW!), there was a life size cardboard cut out of Captain Janeway in the apartment setting of the show. That show is from 1999, so true fan there.
This is promising news. With the merry-go-round of writers and directors, let’s hope that they have their dream team and can deliver us a good Trek film.
