PREACHER Recap: (S02E01) On The Road

Welcome, former citizens of Annville! Too soon? Anyway, Preacher Season 2 kicked things off tonight with a car chase worthy of Mad Max: Fury Road. Our favorite Texan preacher is continuing his search for God, who was reported as MIA in the Season 1 finale. Then, you know, Annville blew up. Accompanied by ex-girlfriend/maybe current girlfriend Tulip and vampire mate Cassidy, Jesse Custer finally met his match in the cowboy from Hell. Referred to as The Saint of Killers, he was dispatched from Hell last season with one mission: to kill Jesse. Now, Jesse’s Genesis power apparently works on everyone but SOK (I hereby...

LOGAN is Getting a Black and White Theatrical Release

Logan was a huge success this year. With great writing and beautiful visuals, the film has shot to the top of people’s favorite films list. And with director James Mangold sharing behind the scenes photos in black and white, fans were sucked in to the potential of a black and white film. Now, it seems, they’ll get the version they’ve been picturing. Shared in a tweet from Mangold himself, he dropped a hint to fans. A rather large hint. “Hard core B&W loving LOGAN fans should not make any plans on the evening of May 16th.” He released more details...

THE MUMMY Trailer and Behind the Scenes Go Full MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE

Over the weekend we were treated to the first trailer for the upcoming Tom Cruise movie, The Mummy, and it went full Mission: Impossible. Let’s talk about this for a few minutes, I’m sure most people are drawing the comparison between Mission: Impossible and this new glimpse of The Mummy.  It’s hard not to.  Even the 15 second teaser left the same impression, the full trailer just reinforced it.  I, personally, can’t stand teasers for trailers because trailers are already teasers for the entire movie.  I thought it was impossible to get an idea about a movie based on 15...

Meet the Artist: Lindsay Ellis

In April of 2008, Channel Awesome launched That Guy With The Glasses. One of the most prolific and popular vlogs on that site belonged to Doug Walker, who portrayed the Nostalgia Critic and made satirical reviews and recaps of various media for young audiences from the 80s and 90s. By August of the same year, Walker decided that he was tired of being asked to review media made primarily for a female audience, since he had no nostalgic ties to such media from his own childhood. To remedy this, he put out a casting call for a distaff counterpart,...

Leto, who recently played the Joker in Suicide Squad, joins Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi, David Dastmalchian, Hiam Abbass, Lennie James and Dave Bautista.  Who is he playing?  Good question, no one knows.  As has been the modus operandi for all casting announcement for...

MOVIES: Over-Doing Do-Overs – Part Two

RE-QUEL Overdoing Do-Overs – Part Two by Paul Preston The Movie Guys Read Part One here: Movies: Over-Doing Do-Overs – Part One In part one of my look at remakes, I discussed the merit of remaking an old film – moneygrab or worthwhile? I weighed in on the few exceptions to the idea that remakes are cynical and looked at re-dos of foreign films. I’d go into further detail about the article, but then I’d essentially be re-writing it and undercutting my whole point. So, onward. Let’s say you’re in Hollywood and you’ve no desire to come up with an...

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE BREAKDOWN: June 10-12, 2016 – The Conjuring 2 and Warcraft Take Top Spots

~Matt Reed Hailing Frequencies Open The Summer 2016 Box Office has taken a decidedly downward turn the last couple of weeks after a strong start. TEENAGE MUTANT NIJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS took the #1 spot last week with $35.3 mil, toppling the one-week stay at the top of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. This week sees the horror film sequel THE CONJURING 2 arrive at the top with a $40.3 mil opening. In fact, the three new films this week all opened at 1-3, knocking TMNT down to #4. While THE CONJURING 2 is just $1.5 mil shy of the...

Oscars So Nerdy!

The image above is the exact face I was making after Mad Max: Fury Road took home six Oscars! It was a fabulous night for science fiction and women in science fiction and film making, and maybe my favorite Oscar in years, because of that. If you missed the show here are a few standout moments: 1. Mad Max Sweeps! – Mad Max: Fury Road swept the Oscars with the most wins, receiving Academy Award’s for Jenny Beavan/Best Costume Design, Elka Wardega, Lesley Vanderwalt & Damien Martin/Best Makeup, David White/Best Sound Editing, Margaret Sixel/Film Editing, Lisa Thompson and Colin Gibson/Best Production Design, Greg Rudloff, Chris Jenkins, Ben Osmo/Best Sound Mixing. My personal opinion is that it was robbed The Best Picture win,...
