Movie Review – DOCTOR STRANGE

JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED Doctor Strange Review by Ray Schillaci The Movie Guys As a kid, I preferred Marvel over DC. My favorites were the Fantastic Four, Captain America, and the Hulk – only one has had a successful theatrical franchise. I was never a big fan of the Iron Man and Thor comic books, but was more than pleasantly surprised at the movie versions. I can say the same about Marvel’s Doctor Strange, with one caviat. Doctor Strange could be the best origin movie yet in the Marvel universe and multiverse. Writer/director Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Exorcism of...

DOCTOR STRANGE Previews Top ANT-MAN and THOR: DARK WORLD!

Due mostly to the fact that I’m obsessed with Doctor Strange, we are pleased to report that Marvel’s newest film has grossed $9.4 Million in just it’s preview night alone. That is, of course, just the domestic market. Looking at the international market, which is now ending it’s second week of release, the film that introduces Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme of the MCU is sitting pretty at an estimated $132 Million, with it’s opening weekend gross at $87 Million. Just to put this into some perspective, the $9.4 Million is a higher Preview Night gross than Thor:...

Doctor Strange Opens With Much Larger Than Expected International Box Office!

$50 million. That’s what Doctor Strange was projected to hit in the international box office. $50 million, $55, maybe $60 million. But, as the poster for the film proudly proclaims, “the impossibilities are endless” with Doctor Strange and the next big film from Marvel blew past the projections for an International opening of $86 million. And, by the way, this opening doesn’t include some of the biggest markets — China, Japan, Russia or Brazil. They all open this week along with the U.S. Just how did the Sorcerer Supreme hold up against the other Marvel films? As Deadline reports...

MOVIE REVIEW (by a Marvel Newbie): Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange: Marvel’s Newest Arrogant Twat This review should come with a warning. I didn’t grow up reading comics – I grew up in country Australia where, asides from the existence of spiders the size of dinner plates, comic books weren’t exactly prolific. So my experience with the Marvel Universe is relatively new and all to do with the cinematic universe. This review is written from the perspective of someone who is brand new to Doctor Strange, so please keep your Hawkeye bow and arrow stashed, I promise I’m here to have a good time. Without further ado – let’s...

Is the Wand of Watoomb In the Upcoming Doctor Strange?

Doctor Strange safeguards a lot very dangerous mystical artifacts in the Marvel universe. There’s, of course, the Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation, which are badges of the mantle, Sorcerer Supreme. He’s had in his possession the Ebony Blade, which he passed along to Valkyrie during her run with his team, the Defenders. He retrieved the reality-ending Book of Cagliostro from Baron Mordo and used it to save the universe from a god-like sorcerer named Sise-Neg. Along with that, he also watches over something called the Crystal of Kadavus, which can refocus dimensional energies into other objects....

Doctor Strange Featurette Shows Off Some Pretty Powerful Relics!

Doctor Strange is just a couple weeks away from hitting theatres and the publicity and promotion machine is in full effect. Today’s addition comes to us courtesy of Movie Surfers, a little mini-show that airs on the Disney Channel. They interview Benedict Cumberbatch about his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who Doctor Strange and what he does, and then they turn their attention to the mystical artifacts that populate his world. He first demonstrates the so-called “Sling Ring” that they use to magically transport around the world and, possibly, to other dimensions. But they then turn their attention...

Doctor Strange Featurette Shows Off Relationship Between Wong and Strange!

“Just Wong? Like Adele?” And that’s how Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) first meets Wong (Benedict Wong) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This featurette, an exclusive given to the good people at comicbook.com, features the main cast speaking about their roles and the roles of their fellow actors. The main take away — they all seem to really like each other and enjoy working with each other. But, beyond that, we get some great new footage, especially the interplay between Doctor Strange and Wong. They’ve always had a great friendship in the comics, despite them starting off in the 60’s as a...

Feige and Derrickson Talk About Tripping Through Dimensions and the Rules of Magic for Doctor Strange!

~Matt Key So, we talked about the relics of Doctor Strange, the next big cinematic spectacle from Marvel, with those artifacts being the Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation, but the purpose of those artifacts is to grant their wielder various magical powers and access to higher dimensions of reality. But what the dimensions looks like, how magic works, how to get back and forth and a host of other considerations all have to be weighed and designed for a visual medium like film. In fact, it’s even trickier because the Doctor Strange comics are trippy enough...
