With the Friday premiere of the Daredevil just a couple days away, Marvel and Netflix are both doing all that they can to promote the series.

Case in point — this new sneak peek at the character of Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher.

daredevil-ed

This is as good as some of the trailers that we’ve seen! We hear a lot of new dialogue, see a lot of new moments and hear how Hell’s Kitchen is reacting to arrival of this new vigilante. Daredevil was bad enough, but now this dude is killing people!

It starts off with Daredevil asking a criminal about “the army” that’s in town. The man, terrified, responds, “It’s one man.” This is then followed by other testimonies of people all saying basically the same thing — this new guy in town is a ruthless and efficient killer and everyone is afraid of him.

As the actor behind The Punisher, Jon Bernthal, says, “He’s not a villain. He’s not a superhero. He’s trying to make people pay for what they’ve done.” It’s just that easy. He’s just trying to make the world a better place the only way he knows how, but that way runs directly against Matt Murdock’s approach of saving lives across the board, even the criminals, and that puts them at odds with each other.

But there’s some real depth to this character as well, with Bernthal following up to say, “As dark as he is, inside, there’s a man suffering real loss.”

Mostly what we get with this feature is some new context, seeing how the world around The Punisher is reacting to him, seeing the environment that he’s created and then seeing how Daredevil fits into that particular equation — which is not well. It sets up, very well, the war between these two heroes.

Beyond that, we get some new fighting footage, see Punisher kick Daredevil’s ass and, more or less, prove that he can, not only beat Daredevil, but could absolutely kill him.

“Bang.”
