Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love Margaret Atwood. Her speculative fiction repertoire has been called depressing and bleak but then again, so have I. That being said, I am truly excited about this news.

HBO has announced that Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream) will be executive producing the drama series, MaddAddam, which will be based on Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy: Oryx and Crake, Year of the Flood and MaddAddam. Three of the most beautifully depressing books you’ll ever read.

These books have so much potential for a series. They portray a very possible and dark future for our planet. The timeline takes place before and after a man made plague that’s referred to as “The Waterless Flood.” The trilogy is set mid-21st century, not too far off. Corporations are the government. Once again, not too far off. If that doesn’t pull you in, there’s yummy and scary genetically modified creatures!
