James Cameron started production on his four, count ’em, FOUR Avatar sequels on September 25th. He has just added academy award winner, Kate Winslet to the cast of all of them.
In an interview, Cameron told Deadline “Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career,”…”I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.” There’s no word on who Ronal is in the film series. Given Winslet’s star power, you can pretty much guarantee that Ronal will have a major role in the story.
Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, CCH Pounder, Steven Lang and Game of Thrones‘ Oona Chaplin have all been confirmed for the sequels. Sigourney Weaver’s return is of particular interest to me, because… spoilers… she didn’t technically make it through the first film. Has she become part of the tree of life? Will she come back physically?
The first sequel is set to be in theaters on December 18, 2020. Avatar 3 will be here a year later on December 17, 2021, followed by a Avatar 4 on December 20, 2024 and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2025. That’s a whole lot of Avatar! Tell us what you think about this ambitious project!
