Paramount released the first full length trailer for Darren Aronofsky‘s thriller mother! today and oh boy! Viewers are in for bumpy ride.
mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris. Lawrence portrays the young wife of Bardem. In the trailer, the couple lives in an old house that Lawrence wants to transform into paradise.
All looks well until Harris and Pfeiffer show up. Lawrence is creeped out by the couple. Bardem has no problem. The longer they stay, the more paranoid Lawrence becomes. The house deteriorates and more people show up for Bardem. What’s really going on?
mother! is written, directed, and produced by Aronofsky. Best know for psychological roller coaster rides and disturbing imagery, Aronofsky is also responsible for Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan. It appears that he will continue to keep movie goers on their toes with the very ambiguous trailer and tagline “Seeing is Believing.”
So, my first thought was, ‘this reminds me of Rosemary’s Baby.’ I can’t figure out what’s really happening. Is it real? Or is JLaw going crazy?
Here is the official synopsis: “Terror strikes when uninvited guests disrupt a couple’s tranquil existence.”
mother! premieres in theaters on September 15.
