Variety announced that James Franco will be joining the cast of Alien: Covenant. He’ll be starring along side Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce and Noomi Rapace. They will be returning to their original roles from Prometheus, which Alien: Covenant is the second in a planned trilogy by director, Ridley Scott.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
At some point, maybe the third movie, we’ll get Sigourney Weaver back. She recently said this to Variety when asked about returning to a sequel:
I hope that Neill Blomkamp and I will eventually get back to it. He’s written such a wonderful script. I look forward to finishing Ripley’s story.
It’s not much, but there’s hope!
Alien: Covenant makes it way to theaters three months earlier than expected, May 19th 2017!
