Last weekend at the SAG Awards, Gwendolyn Christie told People “I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that’s an exclusive, actually.”

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE FORCE AWAKENS!

So, does that mean Captain Phasma did survive the garbage compactor! I would love to see a short on just that moment!

Christie has spoken often that she worked hard to get a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens“I was very overexcited. I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time,” And then I was delighted when J.J. Abrams wanted to have me in the film and then wanted to cast me in this role that had originally been designed for a man.”

Brienne-Of-tarth

About her costume in SWTFA, Christie said she was struck by how “incredible” it was and that it hadn’t been feminized in any way. That, along with the fact the role was originally intended for a male, is groundbreaking for the future of how women warriors are portrayed in cinema. Not to mention her costume as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones which is another amazing female warrior costume that’s functional and non sexualized. Christie is single-handedly changing the way we see strong warrior women in media and that is awesome.
