Game of Thrones is headed head-long into it’s eighth and final season. Having spent a fair amount of time fighting leaks recently, they’ve pulled a page out from the classic TV playbook. According to a report by The Morning Call, HBO‘s programming president says they’ll be shooting multiple endings for the series finale.
HBO’s Casey Bloys is quoted as saying “I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens,” while speaking at Bethlehem’s Moravian College last week. That may mean that even the cast won’t know what the final outcome will be. HBO has not confirmed or denied Bloys claim.
It wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for HBO to do this. Other shows have done the same thing. Shows like Lost, Sex and the City, The Simpsons and 24 have all shot multiple outcomes in one situation or another. It’s a smart move by HBO, in the interest of protecting their narrative. And, it’s exciting for anyone who, like me, doesn’t want a spoiler. I want to be surprised! I want to be wowed! And, I want to be at the viewing party where Gwendoline Christie finds out how the show ends at the same time as the rest of us! Too much to ask? Yeah. Okay.
Game of Thrones‘ 8th and final season is set to premiere in 2019.
