One of the last gigantic remaining puzzle pieces to the Doctor Strange universe, at least in terms of casting, has been found. Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the film, which is under production now, has cast actor Benedict Wong as, well, Wong.

Wong is Doctor Strange’s sidekick, more or less. He’s more of a manservant, but that is such a demeaning title, especially when you consider what it is that he does. He is just as knowledgeable about magic and sorcery as Doctor Strange, is a healer, helps Strange out with his ceremonies and occult practices, keeps the library, watches over the entirety of the Sanctum Sanctorum and all in all helps to protect Doctor Strange.

AND he’s an accomplished martial artist.

It might be more appropriate to think of him as a butler-warrior-ninja-occultist-chef-magician-mystic-monk-accountant… but there’s not really a title for that.

All in all, he is more than a friend to Doctor Strange, more than a sidekick or best friend. In many ways, they are brothers united by The Ancient One.

Which means that Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Wong are now playing two best friends AND that the most recent Benedict thrown into the film actually already shares the name of his character. That is, Wong is playing Wong.

Mr. Wong joins a cast that already includes Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mads Mikkelsen and Rachel McAdams.

Where else have you seen Benedict Wong? Marco Polo, Prometheus, and the Oscar-nominated The Martian.

As for other pieces of the puzzle for Doctor Strange? We still don’t have a Clea or a confirmed Dormammu.
