The first ever Game of Thrones convention, Con of Thrones, was held in Nashville this weekend.  It was a beginning.  Many of the current cast members are doing publicity for season 7, and were not in attendance at the convention.  But, fandom lives, and there were still some notable takeaways; most of all the possibility that season 8 episodes could be much longer than we are accustomed.

Vanity Fair reported Sunday that Paula Fairfield, GoT sound designer, made mention that the ‘powers that be’ are considering making each season 8 episode feature-length.  This is great news for fans of the show, who like me, may have been a little bummed that the last two seasons are to have fewer episodes per season.  Season 7 is going to come in with 7 episodes.  Season 8 is set for six.  But, if season 8 is going to give us some more time with the show each week, that is music to this fan’s ears!

What’s more, is that Fairfield also revealed that the finale episode of season 7 is clocking in at 82 minutes.  Bonus!  So rest assured, Game of Thrones super-fans.   The end may not be quite as near as we thought.  I’m going to savor every second.

Game of Thrones season 7 premieres on HBO July 16th.
