Avengers: Infinity War won’t just be part one and part two! They’ll have two different names!
The Russo Bros., in an interview with Uproxx, talked about their next big project — Avengers: Infinity War. That movie is scheduled to be broken up into two parts, but it sounds like only one of them (or neither?) will retain the title Infinity War.
As Joe Russo says, “the movies are two very different movies.”
Anthony Russo replied saying about a “Part One” and “Part Two” that “It is misleading,” Which Joe Russo then replied with, “The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.”
On the surface, this doesn’t seem like too big a deal — all they’re doing is changing the name of one of the film’s titles so it’s not a “part one” or “part two,” but it’s actually bigger than that. The Russos have said before that these movies are absolutely two separate films with individual, self-contained narratives. Their stories are certainly linked, but there’s no cliff-hanger endings.
With that being the case, all of a sudden the Infinity War just got much much bigger. The obvious choice is to name the first one Infinity Gauntlet followed by Infinity War, but…
… could the first of the two films be something like Korvac, where we see a superior being appear on Earth to act as a herald of Thanos?
Or maybe they do something like starting with Disassembled where we see the Avengers struggling to overcome their differences and unite in the events following Captain America: Civil War.
Or maybe, just maybe, they try to pull off something like Secret Invasion, though the only trick there would be if Marvel could use the Skrulls or if they would have to invent a new way for aliens to be secretly invading our planet for conquest.
It could also go the other way around and start with Infinity War, with the second film being the fallout of that event, seeing something like the Thunderbolts coming out of those events, or maybe leading to the Inhumans with Attilan Rising to lead into Phase Four.
We know Inhumans is off the schedule at Marvel, but we can all dream that it makes it back on, right?
